This is the first paper on systematic research into Phellinus genus in the Republic of Macedonia. The fol- lowing 16 species have been recorded with the research in the Republic of Macedonia: Phellinus conchatus, Ph. contiguous, Ph. erectus, Ph. ferruginosus, Ph. hartigii, Ph. igniarius, Ph. lae�igatus, Ph. �ini, Ph. �o�aceus, Ph. �seu�o�unctatus, Ph. �unctatus, Ph. ribis, Ph. ri�osus, Ph. robustus, Ph. torulosus and Ph. tre�ulae. Two species are put in the Preliminary Red List of the Macromycetes in the Republic of Macedonia - Phell� nus ri�osus, belongs to the category of particularly rare or rare species and Ph. robustus, existing only in endan- gered or rare habitats. The anatomy, distribution, pathology and cultural characters of Phellinus pomaceus (Pers. ex S.F. Gray) Maire are described on the basis of ca. 470 North European specimens. The main anatomical features separating the species from the P. igniarius complex are the subparallel dissepimental hyphae and thin-walled skeletals in the context. P. pomaceus is fairly common in hemiboreal and temperate southern Fennoscandia, but does not extend farther north. In this region, it occurs almost exclusively on Prunus species, mainly P. domestica L., P. cerasus L. and P. spinosa L., but it has been reported only twice from P. padus L., the commonest Prunus species in Fennoscandia. The cultural characters and anatomy show that P. pomaceus is taxonomically homogeneous in N Europe, except perhaps for a form growing on Crataegus. A lectotype is selected for P. pomaceus, and the taxonomic position of some closely related taxa (Polyporus corni Velen ., Fames pomaceus f. crataegi Baxter, Fomitiporia prunicola Murr.) is shortly discussed. We have collected fruiting bodies from different woody plants and the lignicolous basidiomyctes species were identified by their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. From the context of the fresh fruiting bodies small fragments of dikaryotic mycelium were extracted and inoculated on PDA and MEA media for isolation and pure cultures are kept in dark at a temperature of 25°C. 11 species of lignicolous basidiomycetes, belonging to 6 families and 5 orders were isolated in pure culture. The isolates were analyzed in vitro and the main characteristics that were observed are: the general aspect of the surface and the reverse of the colonies, the changing in colour and the growth rate of the mycelium and also the specific odour which indicates the presence of the organic volatile compounds. for the first time lignicolous fungi like Flavodon flavus (Klotz.) Relationships between wood-inhabiting fungal species richness and habitat variables in old-growth forest stands in the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, northern boreal Finland. Silva Fennica 45(5): 995–1013. Indicators for biodiversity are needed for efficient prioritization of forests selected for conservation. We analyzed the relationships between 86 wood-inhabiting fungal (polypore) species richness and 35 habitat variables in 81 northern boreal old-growth forest stands in Finland. Species richness and the number of red-listed species were analyzed separately using generalized linear models. Most species were infrequent in the studied landscape and no species was encountered in all stands. The species richness increased with 1) the volume of coarse woody debris (CWD), 2) the mean DBH of CWD and 3) the basal area of living trees. The number of red-listed species increased along the same gradients, but the effect of basal area was not significant. Polypore species richness was significantly lower on western slopes than on flat topography. On average, species richness was higher on northern and eastern slopes than on western and southern slopes. The results suggest that a combination of habitat variables used as indicators may be useful in selecting forest stands to be set aside for polypore species conservation.

As a result of field and laboratory studies, 73 species were identified. Seven (7) fungi belong to Pezizomycota and 66 to Agaricomycota. Of these fungi 55 represent new records for Forebalkan floristic region. Two (2) species includes in the Red List of fungi in Bulgaria: Clavicorona pyxidata (Pers. : Fr.) Doty, and Phyllotopsis nidulans (Pers. : Fr.) Singer. This paper presents the most up-to-date and extensive list of lignicolous macrofungi of mountain ridge Lisets, Forebalkan floristic region. The study area is covered mainly by natural forest due to the prevailing climatic and edaphic conditions and limited timber extraction.
