Preseason Record Book BASEBALL • 2021 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS Record Book BASEBALL • 2021 1976 (33-20-2) The Warrior baseball program gained full membership in the Far Western Conference and affiliation with the NCAA Division III to open its second decade of competition. With the top four pitchers return- ing, optimism ran high. The team returned from its Arizona trip with a 5-9 record in the midst of a six-game losing skid. The Warriors then began playing up to their po- tential and won 20 of the final 30 games on the schedule and were barely edged by UC Davis for the league title on the last day of the season. With a regular season record of 26-19, Stanislaus received another bid for postseason action. After opening the district playoff with a loss to Westmont College, the Warriors swept to seven consecutive come- from-behind wins to become the first-ever National Champion in Division III. The heart of the order (Dan Boer, Rusty Kuntz, Mel Anderson) was virtually unstoppable throughout the playoffs. Boer was honored as the MVP in the World Series and named first team All- American. 1977 (35-18-1) The 1977 Warriors are gener- ally regarded as the finest team in the history of the program on the basis of outstanding balance. Seven starters batted .294 or better, the pitching staff compiled a record-setting 2.69 ERA with seven shutouts and the defense fielded at a sparkling .955 clip. The team repeated as conference runner- up and closed the year with 10 straight wins. -
