THE 2015 MKB BOOK of Kentucky Derby Prospects 4/8 THE 2015 MKB BOOK of Kentucky Derby Prospects As awarded by Annie and the Magic Genie MKB Biographies by Annie Contributing and editing by SR Vegas MKB : a Brief History. I wanted to note how the MKB started . Back in summer of 2008 , it was noticed by our ANNIE that there is a lull in horse racing interest between the Breeders Cup races and the Kentucky Derby . What better way to continue sharing our horse racing passion, interaction and dialog with our Formblog friends by offering an activity to bridge that gap. How about a ‘Kentucky Derby prospect’ to follow along the preps and races leading up to the Kentucky Derby in May ? GENIUS! That concept became what is now the MKB. It can only be found here at Dan Illman’s Formblog. The first year was for the 2009 Kentucky Derby and now seven years later it is still as popular and going strong. Each year we have new people visiting and participating at Dan’s Formblog. Here is a Nov 2014 post and explanation from Annie : I suppose I should explain the MKB for the newcomers. Like every year, someone is sure to ask "What is the MKB?" :) MKB stands for Magic Kleenex Box. It's named for the box in which the names of promising two-year-olds will be placed next month. On December 14th, one of these horses will be drawn for each Formblogger who signs up for the MKB. That horse will become that person's own special horse to follow along the Derby Trail. This will be the 7th Annual MKB and in 5 of the last 6 years, the winner of the Kentucky Derby has been drawn from that box either during the December draw or later in the March draw which assures that late-blooming three-year-olds can be included. Those eligible for the March draw will be Formbloggers whose original horse was not nominated to the Triple Crown or was injured or withdrawn from the Derby Trail. Enjoy the fun of watching your very own horse compete against the horses of your fellow Formbloggers along the Derby Trail. SR Vegas will assist me in making sure that you know when and where your horse will be running so you can experience the anticipation and excitement of "owning" a Derby prospect. If you have ever wanted to own a racehorse that could compete at the highest level, here's your chance to experience what it would be like, just by signing up for the MKB starting tomorrow! Of course, with so many horses vying for the top prizes, not all will achieve the very top level, but owners who spend thousands, even millions, have the same risk. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones. Annie Thank YOU Annie! SR Vegas TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE MKB Twas’ the night before MKB, with anticipation of course. Not a creature was stirring, not even a horse. The halters were hung on the stall pegs with care, In hopes that the owners soon would be there. The horses were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of roses danced in their heads. And I in my nightie, settled down for the night, Anxiously awaiting the dawn of first light. And then in the corner the ancient lamp glowed, And out of the opening, the great Genie flowed. Her hair shone like gold, her eyes emerald green, She was the immortal MKB Queen. She touched the Kleenex box on the nightstand, And it glowed with bright light from the touch of her hand. She summoned them all, and called them by name, Urging them on to fortune and fame. "Now Dortmund! Now Mawthooq! Now Daredevil and Frosted! On Upstart! On Aldrin! On Eagle and Blofeld!" Many more names she called with a howl, "Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" She summoned them all to feel the desire, The ancient legacy of speed and fire, Infused in the blood of their royal breed, She brought it to fore in each noble steed. "It's your chance of a lifetime, In a lifetime of chance, Run for the roses, Your life to enhance. May you all come home safely, Happy and sound. And the pleasures of life, May they truly abound." With that the Genie, Full of good cheer, Flowed back in the lamp To await the next year. Annie 2015 MKB Bio: edited 2.10.15 * off the Derby trail ** Not nominated to the Triple Crown – 1/30/15 1. In spite of not yet having run in a stakes race, he is only 15-1 on Wynn's Futures. And he also was the lowest price of the 23 single horses in Pool 1 of the Derby Futures at 9-1. Perhaps the early betting is because of his impressive allowance win where he won by 7-3/4 lengths and earned a Beyer of 95. Two of Bob Baffert’s three Derby-bound ‘TDN Rising Stars’ Roadster (Quality Road) and Improbable (City Zip) were among the first to step foot on the freshly manicured surface during the special 15-minute training window reserved for Derby/Oaks horses at 7:30 a.m. Champion and fellow ‘Rising Star’ Game Winner (Candy Ride {Arg}) galloped during a later Baffert set at 9 a.m. Cont. p3 IN TDN EUROPE TODAY Omaha Beach & exercise rider Taylor Cambra Wednesday morning. | Sherackatthetrack CALYX SENSATIONAL IN ROYAL WARM-UP Calyx (GB) (Kingman {GB}) was scintillating in Ascot’s Fox Hill Farms’s Omaha Beach (War Front), the 4-1 favorite for G3 Pavilion S. on Wednesday. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2015 36 HOURS WITH THE NTRA SAFETY AND INTEGRITY ALLIANCE Eskendereya Progeny Show Spirit It looks as though we are destined to wonder what might have been whenever we hear Eskendereya’s name. As a racehorse this son of Giant’s Causeway appeared to have the 2010 GI Kentucky Derby at his mercy, after he had won all three of his starts earlier in the year. He had been notably impressive in taking the GII Fountain of Youth S. by eight and a half lengths and the GI Wood Memorial by nine and a half. Unfortunately, just a week before The NTRA Team: Kilpack, Gates, Durenberger & Koch the Derby, Eskendereya was found to have a slight filling in his left front leg, from the ankle to the knee. Cont. p10 by Lucas Marquardt Back in 2008, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) launched the Safety and Integrity Alliance. The goal was to promote and implement national standards for racetracks. Through a Code of Standards and an accreditation process, the Alliance addressed myriad issues: injury reporting and prevention; PERENNIAL CHAMPION HUNGRY FOR MORE safety equipment and a safer racing environment; medication Daithí Harvey talks to Irish champion jockey Pat Smullen and testing; health and safety of jockeys; aftercare and second about his career to date and his ambitions for the future. careers for retired equine athletes; and wagering security. NOT THIS TIME The most brilliant two-year-old son of sire of sires, Giant’s Causeway, Not This Time was also arguably the fastest and most spectacular two-year-old of his crop. In addition to being by Storm Cat’s leading sire son, he is out of record-breaking graded and multiple stakes winning Miss Macy Sue – also dam of brilliant Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. I) victor Liam’s Map – and descends from Ta Wee, a two-time Champion Sprinter who is half-sister to the legendary Dr. Fager. Giant’s Causeway has demonstrated an affinity for the Fappiano branch of Mr. Prospector, and Fappiano is particularly interesting here, as he is out of a mare by Dr. Fager, which should work extremely well with remarkable strong Tartan Farm/Genter heritage in the dam of Not This Time (which includes inbreeding to Dr. Fager’s brilliant half-sister, Ta Wee). We can note that Unbridled’s Song – a grandson of Fappiano – is the sire of Not This Time’s brilliant half-brother Liam’s Map.

  • Tough Road Ahead= for Post-Brexit Horse Transport
SUNDAY, 17 JANUARY 2021 >TOUGH ROAD AHEAD= ABDULLAH=S FAMILY AVERY COMMITTED@ TO JUDDMONTE FOR POST-BREXIT HORSE It will be business at usual at Juddmonte Farms after Juddmonte Group Chief Executive Douglas Erskine Crum told ITV TRANSPORT on Saturday that there will be Ano change@ following the death of the global operation=s founder Prince Khalid Abdullah last week. Abdullah had raced 118 Group or Grade I winners since entering the game just over 40 years ago, of which he bred 102 of those. He owned stud farms in the UK, Ireland and Kentucky. AThe family has been for some time and still is very committed to keeping Juddmonte as it is going, focusing on the broodmare band, focusing on the homebred operation,@ Erskine Crum told ITV Racing. AOne of the last decisions in which the prince was involved was the matings for this year, in other words where his 200-odd broodmares are going to go. Whether they are going to go to Frankel, Kingman or some of the great stallions across the world. Cont. p5 Horse transport between Britain and the EU has become much more complicated | Getty Images By Emma Berry While Britain, Ireland and France are competing nations in the racing and breeding world, in recent years the Tripartite Agreement (TPA) has significantly eased the regular interaction between the three, particularly in regard to transporting broodmares and racehorses. The TPA recognised the high health status of Thoroughbreds and allowed for free equine movement between the countries. All that changed, however, when Britain=s departure from the European Union was finalised with the end of the transition period on Dec.
