BULLETIN DE SITUATION ACRIDIENNE MADAGASCAR Bulletin de la première décade de janvier 2015 (2015-D01) SOMMAIRE CELLULE DE VEILLE ACRIDIENNE Situation éco-météorologique : page 1 Situation acridienne : page 3 Ministère de l’Agriculture Situation antiacridienne : page 8 Synthèse : page 10 Annexes : page 13 SITUATION ÉCO-MÉTÉOROLOGIQUE Durant la 1ère décade de janvier 2015, un fort gradient pluviométrique Nord-Est/Sud-Ouest concernait Madagascar induisant une très forte pluviosité dans l’Aire d’invasion Nord, une pluviosité moyenne à forte dans l'Aire d’invasion Centre et une pluviosité souvent faible à moyenne dans l'Aire grégarigène. Les informations pluviométriques étaient contradictoires, selon les sources : x les estimations de FEWS-NET (figure 1) indiquaient que la pluviosité était supérieure à 125 mm au nord de la Grande-Île et qu’elle diminuait progressivement de 20 à 30 mm sur des bandes diagonales successives de 100 à 200 km de large à partir du nord et jusqu’au sud du pays ; x le peu de relevés transmis par le Centre National Antiacridien (annexe 1) indiquait que la pluviosité était très forte dans l’Aire grégarigène transitoire, moyenne à forte dans l’Aire de multiplication initiale ainsi que dans la majeure partie de l’Aire transitoire de multiplication et faible à moyenne dans l’Aire de densation, ce qui différait des estimations de FEWS-NET pour l’Aire grégarigène. Dans l’Aire grégarigène, compte tenu des relevés pluviométriques faits par le CNA, les conditions hydriques étaient fort erratiques : dans l’Aire grégarigène transitoire, elles étaient excédentaires par rapport aux besoins du Criquet migrateur malgache solitaire, dans l’Aire de multiplication initiale Centre, elles étaient favorables au développement et à la reproduction du Locusta migratoria capito et dans les secteurs Sud de l’Aire transitoire de multiplication et de l’Aire de densation, les pluies restaient peu abondantes. -

The mpI ortance of Geographic and Biological Variables in Predicting the Naturalization of Non-Native Woody Plants in the Upper Midwest Abstract The es lection, introduction, and cultivation of non-native woody plants beyond their native ranges can have great benefits, but also unintended consequences. Among these consequences is the tendency for some species to naturalize and become invasive pests in new environments to which they were introduced. In lieu of lengthy and costly field trials, risk-assessment models can be used to predict the likelihood of naturalization. -

It includes all species known to be growing outside of cultivation within the Jokers Hill property. Also listed are native species found in land adjacent to the TYPHACEAE (Cat-tail Family) Jokers Hill property, but not yet found on the site (scientific name preceded by "*" - 13 species). A __ Typha angustifolia Narrow-leaved Cat-tail total of 631 taxa (species and hybrids) are listed; 450 taxa are considered native to Jokers Hill (those __ Typha latifolia Common Cat-tail listed in bold typeface) and 181 are considered non-native (listed in regular typeface). Determining native versus non-native status required a few rather arbitrary judgements. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15553/c2021v761a11 This paper provides a taxonomic revision of Melanoxerus Kainul. & Bremer (Rubiaceae) – a genus of deciduous trees with eye-catching flowers and fruits that is endemic to Madagascar. Descriptions of three new species, Melanoxerus antsirananensis Kainul., Melanoxerus atropurpureus Kainul., and Melanoxerus maritimus Kainul. are presented along with distribution maps and a species identification key. The species distributions generally reflect the ecoregions of Madagascar, with Melanoxerus antsirananensis being found in the dry deciduous forests of the north; Melanoxerus atropurpureus in the inland dry deciduous forests of the west; Melanoxerus maritimus in dry deciduous forest on coastal sands; and Melanoxerus suavissimus (Homolle ex Cavaco) Kainul. & B. It does, however, have a few things going for it. It is the atomic number of Plutonium. In mathematics, it is the only number greater than one that equals the sum of the squares of the digits of their own square in base 11. If you call Sri Lanka on a regular basis, you are certainly aware that 94 is the code for international direct dial phone calls to that country. 94 feet just happens to be the official length of an NBA basketball court. Most importantly, it is the number of years that the Kankakee Nursery has been in operation. OK, I get it. 94 years is not as cool a milestone as say 95 or 100 years, but we’re pretty proud of the accomplishment nevertheless. In our 94th year, we have continued to progress in a number of ways. We have just completed three state-of-the-art greenhouses devoted exclusively to the production of tree liners. Thanks to our crack IT team, we have made many advances that touch all aspects of our operation. Advances have accelerated in inventory control, customer service, and quality control just to name a few. We continue our strong commitment to the future by significantly expanding the lining out of both our trees and evergreens. The impressive growth and development of our fourth generation is ongoing and a joy to watch as they take on more daily responsibility. -
Field Guide – Common Trees and Shrubs of Georgia
Introduction Up to 400 species of trees and shrubs grow in Georgian for- ests. This Field Guide contains information about 100 species of trees and shrubs from 38 plant families. The abundance of relict and endemic timber species (61 species endemic to Geor- gia and 43 species endemic to the Caucasus) indicates the high biodiversity of Georgian forests. Georgian forests provide habitats and migration corridors to a range of wild fauna, and play an important role in the conserva- tion of the genetic diversity of animal species in the region. In conditions of complex and deeply dissected relief, characteristic to Georgia, forests are especially important due to their climate regulation, water regulation and soil protection functions. Forests also ensure the continuous delivery of vital benefits and resources to the population, and facilitate the development of a range of industries. Introduction In this Field Guide each plant family is displayed in a different color. The Field Guide contains an alphabetical index of species, as well as the names of species in Latin and English, as estab- lished by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. The Field Guide also contains a brief description of the taxo- nomic characteristics, range and protection status of each spe- cies.
