Choose one of two locally guided walking tours: stroll by cathedrals, medieval buildings and through the quaint squares of the Gothic Quarter, or mingle with the locals during a stroll through the famous open-air market and Barcelona’s famous Las Ramblas Boulevard. Learn the secrets of Catalan cuisine during a private, fun–filled, interactive cooking class. Journey to the Penedès wine region and the historic Codorniu Winery to experience a tour and tasting of the area’s famous sparkling wine, known as cava. Admire the classic art deco buildings and seafront promenade of colorful Sitges. Savor a traditional tapas-style dinner.

Day One – Overnight flight Day Two – Barcelona, – Tour begins. Welcome to Barcelona, Spain’s second largest city and capital of the Catalunya region. Tonight, meet your fellow travelers at a welcome dinner. (D) Day Three –Barcelona – Parc Guell – La Sagrada Familia. Get acquainted with one of the liveliest cities in all of Europe on your locally guided tour. Discover Parc Güell, one of the most impressive public parks in the world and one of Gaudí’s masterpieces where he let loose his imagination with amazing buildings, sculptures and tile work. Next, explore the most popular monument in Spain, Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece La Sagrada Familia, still under construction after more than 100 years. Also see the Columbus Monument, Parc de Montjuic, and several UNESCO World Heritage sites linked to Antoni Gaudí including the unconventional Casa Mila building and Batllo House. The afternoon is at leisure to relax, explore independently or perhaps take an optional excursion to Montserrat, a spectacular mountaintop monastery. (B) Day Four –Barcelona – Choice of Walking Tours. Today it’s your choice of locally guided walking tours! You may choose to begin at the 14th-century basilica of Santa Maria del Mar, created in pure Catalan Gothic style, followed by a leisurely paced walking tour of Barcelona’s historic Gothic Quarter, a beautifully preserved neighborhood with medieval squares set inside a labyrinth of streets leading to the 13th-century La Seu Cathedral. Or perhaps you will choose to meet the locals while exploring La Boqueria, Barcelona’s largest and oldest open-air market, portions of which date back to the Middle Ages; then head to Las Ramblas Boulevard, the most famous walking street in Barcelona; discover famous landmarks such as Gran Teatre del Liceu, Plaza Real, Palau de la Virreina, and one of Antoni Gaudí’s architectural treasures – Güell Palace. The afternoon is free to explore intriguing Barcelona on your own. You may opt to visit the Picasso Museum, home to more than 3,800 of his works. Or maybe take a stroll along one of Barcelona’s grand boulevards. (B) Day Five – Barcelona – Penedes Wine Region – Cooking Class – Sitges. Your journey brings you to the Penedès, the land of wine and cava – Spain’s celebrated sparkling wine. Arrive in the small town of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the birthplace of cava. Take in the sights, smells, tastes, sounds, textures and sensations during a fun-filled interactive cooking class followed by a delightful lunch of Catalan specialties. Later, tour the beautiful Codorniu cellars, the world's largest producer of cava. Be immersed in the style of architecture, along with the history, traditions and innovations of winemaking. Sample a variety of wines before proceeding to the whitewashed coastal town of Sitges, known for its beaches, compact old town, classic Art Deco buildings and the seafront promenade. Enjoy free time exploring this delightful town before returning to Barcelona. (B, L) Day Six – Barcelona. Enjoy a day at leisure to create your own adventure in this fascinating city. You may choose an optional excursion to Figueres and the famed Dalí Theatre-Museum for insight into the surrealist world of Salvador Dalí. This evening, toast the end of a memorable trip with the popular local drink chupito de hiervas, followed by a sumptuous farewell dinner featuring local wine and a selection of tapas including some traditional favorites – pulpo a la gallega (octopus Galician style), gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns), and pan con tomate (Spanish style bruschetta).
