ABSTRACT - Fu1 and Fu2 faunas, represented by the spathic lumachella horizons of the Grilli Quarry (Furlo Pass, Umbria- Marche Apennines), contain two highly biodiversified assemblages. They follow chronologically the “Venturi ’78” bed from the Pallareto Quarry (Catriceras catriense bioevent), which is considered the first post-Sinemurian record to be found in the Apennines: as a whole, these three faunas characterize the lower part of the Early Pliensbachian (Carixian) in our area. The material collected at the Furlo Pass enabled us to recognize an unexpected wealth of forms, including some completely new taxa. Within the Psiloceratida (order comprising the taxa traditionally placed in the Lytoceratina and Ammonitina), the new family Holcolytoceratidae is proposed here for Audaxlytoceras together with Holcolytoceras. Among the Eoderoceratoidea, we describe the new species Omoderoceras latispira (a Paramicroderoceratinae with monospinate inner stage, formerly found in the “Venturi ’78” bed), and we note the discovery of the first Apennine ammonoid ascribable to Apoderoceras. -

The bed which yielded the skeletal remains is the uppermost layer of the Kisgerecse Marl Formation exposed here and was determined as belonging to the Upper Toarcian Grammoceras thouarsense Zone. The beds of the sequence above and below were carefully sampled in the late 1990s, and the encountered ammonites were evaluated biostratigraphically. As a result, the Lower Toarcian Harpoceras serpentinum Zone, the Middle Toarcian Hildoceras bifrons and Merlaites gradatus Zones, and the Upper Toarcian Grammoceras thouarsense and Geczyceras speciosum Zones were identified. Within most of these zones the subzones and even the faunal horizons were successfully recognized. The lowermost beds above the underlying Pliensbachian red limestone did not yield any fossils; thus the lowermost Toarcian Dactylioceras tenuicostatum Zone could not be documented. The highest Toarcian ammonite zones also remained unidentified, because the beds of the Tölgyhát Limestone above were not sampled all the way up. This paper presents the lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic details of the sequence, and the paleontological descriptions of the most important ammonites. -
Upper Toarcian – Middle Aalenian (Jurassic) Erycitinae SPATH (Ammonitina) from the Gerecse Mts, Hungary

(ed.): 125th Anniversary of the Department of Palaeontology at Budapest University – A Jubilee Volume Hantkeniana 6, 57—108, Budapest, 2008 Upper Toarcian – Middle Aalenian (Jurassic) Erycitinae SPATH (Ammonitina) from the Gerecse Mts, Hungary 1 2 Zoltán KOVÁCS & Barnabás GÉCZY (with 12 figures, 4 tables and 13 plates) The Upper Toarcian–Middle Aalenian sequences of the Gerecse Mts belong to the Mediterranean region of the Mediterran–Caucasian Realm, bigger part of the Ammonoidea collected here are represented by the suborders Phylloceratina and Lytoceratina. In this paper the species belonging to the subfamily Erycitinae SPATH are documented as a contribution to the general taxonomic and biostratigraphic revision of the Ammonitina fauna. Considering the abundance and diversity of the subfamily, it was a dominant group in the Meneghinii to Opalinum Zones: during its acme Erycitinae formed 52% of the Ammonitina. Two genera, one subgenus and 15 species are represented by 117 determined specimens. Quantitative evaluation and problems of systematics are briefly discussed, genera and species are described. Introduction of two new taxa, Cagliceras enigmaticum n. sp. and Erycites gerecsensis n. sp. is designated. Abstract Taxonomical, stratigraphical and palaeobiogeographical problems of subfamily Grammoceratinae and included genera Pseudogrammoceras, Grammoceras, Podagrosites, Pseudolillia, Esericeras, and Gruneria are briefly discussed. Zonal index taxa of the subfamily are documented from the Middle–Upper Toarcian ammonite assemblage of the Gerecse Mts (NE Transdanubian Range). A new species (Pseudolillia paralleliformis nov. sp.) is introduced in the Appendix. The Grammoceratinae fauna detailed here is closely allied to the submediterranean transition zones of the Mediterranean Province of the Mediterran–Caucasian Realm. ABSTRACT - A detailed biostratigraphic study based on ammonites and calcareous nannofossils was carried out in the Colle d'Orlando section (Centra! ltaly). This succession is characterized by a regular alternance o/ marly and limestone levels, Toarcian in age. Fifty seven Ammonite assemblages belonging to seven biozones, seven subzones and one biohorizon were recognized. They comprise all the Toarcian Standard Ammonite Zones with the exception o/the Bonarellii Zone. The ammonite assemblages exhibit a Mediterranean affinity. Severa! calcareous nannofossil events are recognized in the Late Domerian to Early Bajocian o/the Colle d'Orlando section and some con- siderations regarding the assemblaf{.e composition and preservation state are presented here. The continuous and relatively abundant record o/ ammonites and calcareous nannojossils allows far an integrated biostratigraphy and a precise correlation o/ calcareous nannofossil events to ammonite biohorizons. RIASSUNTO- [Stratigrafia della sezione Toarciana di Colle d'Orlando (Appennino Umbro-Marchigiano, Italia Centrale)] - Nel pre- sente lavoro viene analizzata la successione giurassica di Colle d'Orlando ubicata nel Bacino Umbro-Marchigiano nel massiccio del Monte Cucco. ABSTRACT - The ammonite assemblages found in the spathic Fu3 shell beds (lumachellas) of the Grilli Quarry (Furlo Pass, Umbria- Marche Apennines, central Italy) supplement the previous studies on the early Pliensbachian (Carixian) in this area, allowing to obtain a quite varied taxonomic, biostratigraphic and paleobiogeographic framework. The abundant documentation of the three lumachellas forming the Fu3 fauna (Fu3a, Fu3b1 and Fu3b2) belongs to the second Apennine biozone of the early Pliensbachian: this unit was formerly indicated as Miltoceras sellae Taxon Range Biozone, but here is redefined in a formally more correct way as Miltoceras Interval Biozone. Among the several ammonites collected, many new taxa are described: the new species Miltoceras furlense (family Coeloceratidae, subfamily Coeloceratinae), the new genus Spiniclaviceras for the new species S. spirale (family Coeloceratidae, subfamily Dubariceratinae), the new genus Paramorphites with the new species P. acutiventris (family Polymorphitidae, subfamily Polymorphitinae), and the new genus Sphenoacanthites (family Sinuiceratidae) instituted for the Tunisian forms erroneously reported as Gorgheiceras costotuberculatum and G. -
Ammoniti Del Sinemuriano Inferiore Del Monte Cetona (Prov. Di Siena)

RIASSUNTO - Vengono illustrati gli ammoniti del Lias inferiore del M. Cetona al fine di integrare ed ampliare la conoscenza della fauna tratta per lo più da articoli del secolo scorso (De Stefani, 1886; Canavari, 1888; Fucini, 1895, 1901-1905). In una cava di pietra attiva dalla fine del ’800 fino agli anni 70, nei pressi di Cancelli (versante Est del M. Cetona), sono stati campionati vari spezzoni della successione tiassi- ca rovesciata; per la precisione le seguenti unità, in ordine cronologico, dal basso verso l’alto: Calcari sparici encrinitici, Calcari encrinitici rossi, Calcari rossi (raramente) grigi nodulari (= Rosso Ammonitico Toscano), Calcari selciferi grigi o rosati, Calcari marnosi e marne grigio-rosso mat tone (Marne a Posidonia). L’associazione qui trattata e che ha fornito le maggiori novità tassonomiche proviene dai calcari sparici ed encriniti- ci grigi-rosa e rossi che costituiscono la base della successione studiata. Per quanto la successione dei livelli faunistici sia coerente con la sovrappo sizione, l’esposizione degli strati (copertura detritica o manto erboso) non permette di valutare con sicurezza la posizione stratigrafica di tutti i livelli fossiliferi sotto elencati. La successione dei fossili trovati va considerata caratteristica del Sinemuriano inferiore (e forse in piccola parte dell’Hettangiano sommitale). Si ritiene che l’intervallo rappresenti la Zona a C.(A.) Bucklandi (sottozone Conybeari-Rotiforme e Bucklandi) per la grande abbondanza e diversità di Arietitidae, di cui alcuni appartenenti a generi del tutto nuovi per la tassonomia: Saccaiaceras n. -

Here, the nodular limestone and grey marl of the Bugarone Formation have recorded a great amount of well preserved Toarcian inner moulds of ammonoids sometimes large sized. -

From the lower and middle Toarcian layers of the Marconessa quarry sections we collected several ammonite genera, such as Hildaites, Orthildaites, Hildoceras, Harpoceras, Taffertia, Rakusites, Martanites, Praemercaticeras, Mercaticeras, Leukadiella, Frechiella, Phymatoceras, Rarenodia, Praepolyplectus, Polyplectus, Orthodactylites, Mesodactylites, Nodicoeloceras, very rare Dactylioceras and Nejdia, Lytoceras, Calliphylloceras, Phylloceras. We establish herein a new genus Cingolites, to which we ascribe three new species (C. clavatus, C. picenus and C. spiralis) and an already established species (C. stefaniniij, which was previously assigned by Merla (1932) to the genus Mercaticeras. To the present-day the genus Cingolites seems to have a Mediterranean Tethys dispersal, mainly in the Apennines, where it occurs with other endemic Hildoceratinae fauna. -

This paper investigates whether or not the well-documented demise of Sinemurian carbonate platforms in the Tethyan region was a response to a global event by examination of carbon-isotope anomalies in successions of different facies that record this interval of time. A chemostratigraphic transect from Lake Garda up to the eastern Italian border is illustrated by four stratigraphic sections; high-resolution (20 cm over key intervals) chemostratigraphic sampling allowed detection of a major negative δ13C anomaly of 1.5 ‰, preceded by a positive excursion, both in shallow- and deep-water successions, over the stratigraphical range of the ammonite genus Arnioceras.
