These films actualize region as a cinematic imaginary through its authenticity markers – caste/ist practices explicitly, which earlier films constructed as a ‘trope’. The paper uses the concept of Heterotopias to analyse the recurrence of spectacle spaces in the construction of Madurai, and the production of caste in contemporary films. In this pursuit, it interrogates the implications of such spatial discourses. Analysis of the story line and selected song sequences from the Hindi language film Anjaam (“Outcome,” 1994) in light of themes from the Hindu Sanskrit text, the Devi-Mahatmya (“Greatness of the Goddess,” 5thc.     My study of the exhibition and consumption of Bollywood films in Toronto is inspired by two key theoretical objects. The first has to do with the desire to explore alternatives to thinking globalization as a single integrated or unified conceptual scheme, a particular danger in Canadian studies where the tendency has been to read globalization exclusively as an extension of American cultural and economic imperialism. A more productive line of inquiry has been suggested by Saskia Sassen, who shifts the focus from the conventional globallnational axis to a consideration of how globalization is actualized in concrete localized forms at the sub-national level of cities. Of great import to the Canadian experience, Sassen insists that the presence of large diasporic populations in major metropolitan cities attests to the living reality of postcoloniality and uneven development, both historic features of long term global economies. As such, she argues, immigration and ethnicity need to be taken out of the paradigm of "otherness" and situated, precisely, as a fundamental aspect of globalization, "a set of processes whereby global elements are localized, international labour markets are constituted, and cultures from all over the world are de- and reterritorialized."' The sample size of 100 was mentioned by the organisation, while the sample design used fir this study is disproportionate stratified random sampling, data was collected through non-disguised structured questionnaire distributed directly to the respondents by the researcher. The data collected were both primary & secondary in nature. The collected data has been analysed using statistical tools such as percentage method and Chi square method. Typically, they present a plethora of stimuli signposting the most diverse products. Huge billboards advertise all sorts of jewelry, sarees, mobile networks and new urban development plots, while less sizeable hoardings show the latest movie releases. In the same vein, numerous shop fronts and buildings are covered with brightly colored paintings publicizing wares on shutters, blind elevations, and front or perimeter walls. Whenever available, these ad spaces can also be given away for commercial advertisements, or serve political purposes by showing the portrait or symbols of a party leader. Throughout the region’s cities, the media promoting consumption goods seem to mix just as easily with these portraits of public figures as with film paraphernalia. Within this visual urban cacophony, film stars represent just one of the city’s visual tropes.
