The CAPE EPIC - The Magical and Untamed African Mountain Bike Race » Home CLICK HERE for 2005 results. The route, characterised by dusty and demanding gravel paths, strenuous up and thrilling down hills, magnificent river crossings and stunning single tracks, is tougher and more attractive than in the first year. After the enormous success of the inaugural CAPE EPIC, private land owners have opened their gates for the second edition, including Sanbona, the Cape's newest Big Five Game Reserve. On their way from Barrydale to Montagu, the competitors will see probably the most amazing stretch of land of the entire CAPE EPIC with a good chance to catch a glimpse of elephants, giraffe, gemsbok, springbok or even lions. Despite offering 40% more South African start places for 2005, all 250 South African 2- person team start places were snapped up in just 4 hours and 51 minutes on the 1st of June and all international start places were taken by October. The companion programme has been designed for those who love the idea of mountain biking through the Western Cape and riding trails that are opened to mountain bikers only once a year for The CAPE EPIC, but who don't want to race nearly 900 kilometres; whose partner is riding the Epic and who would like to share the experience without actually cycling the whole way; who prefer staying in a hotel and enjoying a few picnic lunch-stops along the route. However, there is no need to be jealous of the luxury accommodation companions enjoy. For 2005, The CAPE EPIC offers a Premium Upgrade Option for those riders that would prefer a few more luxuries than the Epic Race Village offers. Premium package riders stay in hotels and guest houses and get their own dedicated masseur and host. http://www.cape-epic.com/ (2 von 2) [11.05.2005 22:06:28].
