The primary vintages were sourced wines from the Columbia Valley AVA. Hedges Cellars, as it was called, created the first commerical wine blend for sale from WA State. After three years, Tom (born in Richland, WA) and Anne-Marie Hedges (born in Champagne, France), moved from a sourced fruit model to an Estate Grown model, by purchasing land in WA States’ most coveted terroir: The Red Mountain AVA. Soon after, Hedges Cellars became Hedges Family Estate, when their son Christophe joined in 2001. Shortly after, their daughter Sarah joined in 2006 and became head winemaker in 2015. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: David Wells [email protected] 443-299-9894 Lloyd Davis to open Corner 103 as a unique wine tasting experience High-end, seated, educational tastings coming to Sonoma Plaza starting April 20 SONOMA – Former owner of Viansa Winery, Lloyd Davis, plans to open Corner 103, a Sonoma Tasting Experience, located at 103 West Napa Street, Sonoma California on April 20, 2015. Over a year since selling Viansa, Lloyd has decided to start his own wine brand and open a tasting room on the historic Sonoma Plaza. Lloyd took control of Viansa Winery in 2008 and is credited with its successful operational and financial turnaround. During his leadership, Viansa wines won over 400 wine competition medals, many for “Best in Class.” Viansa became known as a “must visit” when coming to Sonoma wine country. Turning his eyes to building his own wine brand from the ground up and recognizing that most people are intimidated by wine, Lloyd is establishing Corner 103, which draws its name from the location and address of the tasting room. Corner 103 is all about creating a unique experience where wine is explored and discussed in a relaxed and fun environment. Guests will taste seven wines in a seated environment designed for wine tasting. There will be no more than 10 guests at a time. Each limited production wine will come from a different AVA of Sonoma County that showcases the varietal as well as the AVA. There will be a Rose Sparkling wine from Carneros, a Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast, a Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley, a Merlot from Alexander Valley, a Red Blend from various Sonoma AVA’s, a Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley, a Cabernet Sauvignon form Sonoma Valley, and a Petit Verdot (wine club exclusive) from Rockpile. -
2015 Readers Merlot
1RDRS5 20 READERS MERLOT 15 COLUMBIA VALLEY A.V.A. n outstanding Merlot from Washington’s revered old vineyards Conner Lee and Dionysus. Our Readers blend tips its hat to all exploratory readers of books and wine. Blending Conner Lee Vineyard’s 1992 old block Merlot and Dionysus Vineyards’ block A15 Merlot combines two super character vineyards. Elephant Mountain Vineyard’s Cabernet bring spice and complexity to the blend. This powerful wine offers fragrant cherries and chocolate with rich marrionberry flavors in this delicious easy drinking style. VINTAGE Vintage 2015 is Washington’s leading hot vintage and earliest ripening harvest. Our vineyards yielded fruit with record color and tannin. This is in alignment with our house style of rich and smooth age-worthy reds. Spring broke buds in March and flowered in May, setting the stage for the early harvest. Late spring developed small grapes on small clusters in all our vineyards. Summer temperatures were hotter than average and lead to an early July verasion. Together early and swift verasion are hallmarks of great vintages. Our fruit we shaded with healthy canopies balancing acidity and sugar ripeness while protecting against sunburn. We harvested summer fruits in excellent condition. WINEMAKING Dionysus we harvested August 26 into small fermenters. Conner Lee Vineyard we picked at the peak of ripeness swiftly by Pellenc Selective harvester September 10 delivering perfectly sorted fruit right on time. We hand mixed for two weeks, then finished fermentation in barrels and puncheons. We aged on lees reductively, developing savory tones complimentary to the powerful fruit. After 20 months, we selected the final blend. -
Loxton Answers to Student Questions
1 Student questions: Chris Loxton’s colloquium on “Science and the Art of Winemaking” 1/11/17 Question 1: What are the most common mistakes that rockies make? Rookies sometimes make the mistake of making too much wine, or making a style of wine that they like, but which not enough consumers like, and in both cases, they can’t sell enough money to keep up cash flow and then get into financial difficulty. I sometimes also see inconsistency in style. Without the proper training, they make a few good wines, but then in a bad year (with rain, for example), make some mistakes and the wine quality is less, and then they can’t sell it fast enough and again this leads to cash flow problems. Question 2: I would have never guessed that the surrounding temperature and allitude has a lot to deal with what kind of wine you will be making. What areas in Arizona would be ideal for wine making? An ideal climate would have not so much rain in late summer near harvest, very little frost danger in Spring, and enough water to be able to irrigate when necessary and not be too hot in summer (the degree day requirements for grapes mean that you want just enough heat for ripening, but not too much). All this means that there are areas in the foothills south of Tucson and other areas in Southern AZ that are suitable, and some near 3000 foor elevation near Sedona, for example, that should be suitable. Question 1: What are the characteristics of a high quality grape (i.e. -

White Zinfandel
Beringer Classics WHITE ZINFANDEL VINEYARDS The coordination between viticulture and winemaking teams is essential when choosing fruit, to achieve the optimum level of avor and balance in the wine. The vineyards selected for the Beringer Classics wines are bathed in warm sunshine the majority of the day, to yield the most ripe, sun-kissed fruit avors in the grapes. WINEMAKING NOTES Winemaking begins in the vineyard and often peaks with the harvest of the grapes that have been carefully tended all year long. Grapes for the Beringer Classics White Zinfandel were picked at the peak of maturity and brought into the winery for gentle crushing. By keeping the juice in contact with the grapes’ red skins for approximately three hours, a light blush color was retained. Beringer’s winemakers then used slow, cool fermentations to preserve the vibrant, fresh strawberry, honeydew, and citrus aromas and avors. TASTING NOTES In making Beringer’s White Zinfandel, the focus is to highlight the fresh red berry, citrus and melon aromas and avors, and round them out with subtle hints of nutmeg and clove. The wine has a youthful exuberance that is enjoyable as a sipper on its own, or with a variety of dishes. Alcohol: 10% Beringer Classics wines boast some of the best-selling wines in the country. 2019 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
2019 WILLAMETTE VALLEY PINOT NOIR AVERÆN was born out of our love for cool climate Pinot Noir. Oregon’s Willamette Valley offers an ideal growing climate, where strong winds blow from the nearby Pacific Ocean, and the mix of ancient volcanic soils and marine sediments from a prehistoric ocean floor lend intense minerality and complexity to the Pinot Noir grapes grown on them. Simple sustainable farming, hands-off winemaking and a passion for Pinot Noir dictate our mission. Our vineyards span the Willamette’s sub-AVAs, enabling us to create a wine that is a true representation of the Valley as a whole – playing off each site’s specific personality and complementary nature to create a harmonious blend.
