(2) A joint catchment area is the area shown on one or more maps edged with a red line. 1 2001 c.33 2 Orders made by the Department under section 58(2) of the Education Act 2001 shall be laid before Tynwald. c SD No. 2010/0153 Page 3 Article 5 School Catchment Areas Order 2019 (3) The Roman Catholic Parishes of the churches of St Anthony's, Onchan, St Joseph's, Willaston and St Mary's of the Isle, Douglas are designated as the catchment area of St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary School, Douglas. (4) There are no designated catchment areas for St Thomas' Church of England Primary School, Douglas or the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh. 5 Catchment areas of secondary schools (1) Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), in relation to each secondary school specified in column 1 of Schedule 2, the areas designated by article 4(1) as the catchment areas of the corresponding primary schools specified in column 2 of Schedule 2 are together designated as the catchment area of that secondary school. (2) Only those parts of the catchment areas indicated on the order map entitled “Secondary School Catchments Referred to in the School Catchment Area Order 2019” which are hatched in two different colours are joint catchment areas for secondary schools as indicated in Schedule 4. (3) Where the parents of a registered pupil at the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh wish their child to continue to be taught an element of the curriculum through the medium of Manx Gaelic, that pupil shall, for the purposes of this Order, be regarded as residing within the catchment area of the Queen Elizabeth II High School, Peel, irrespective of the parents' actual place of permanent residence, provided that the pupil has been in attendance at the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh for more than one year prior to attaining secondary school age. (4) Pupils who attend St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary School or St Thomas' Church of England Primary School shall attend the secondary school of the area in which they permanently reside. 6 Key to maps Symbols used to represent educational institutions are detailed in Schedule 3. 7 Revocation The School Catchment Areas Order 20173 is revoked.     Dear Parents, Wednesday 6th January 2021 Re: Closure of Schools due to Coronavirus We would like to thank you all for your patience at this difficult time. As I am sure you heard yesterday the Chief Minister ordered the closure of most schools for most pupils on the Isle of Man from the end of school today. We know that parents/carers will seek to keep their children safe by keeping them at home and will follow the Government’s advice. We very much appreciate your support in this and know that, if we all work together, we have the best chance of reducing the spread of Covid-19. The Government has asked parents to keep their children at home wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who are designated as ‘vulnerable’ or are the children of ‘key workers’. It is important to understand that: • If it is possible for children to stay at home then they should. • Parents/carers should also do all they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way that could spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults. • Many parents who are key workers may be able to ensure their child is kept at home. Every child who can be safely at home should be. • The fewer children making the journey to school and the fewer children in educational settings the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society. • Parents can choose to keep children away from school without any concern of repercussion.

A Brief History of the Cornish Language, its Revival and its Current Status Siarl Ferdinand, University of Wales Trinity Saint David Abstract Despite being dormant during the nineteenth century, the Cornish language has been recently recognised by the British Government as a living regional language after a long period of revival. The first part of this paper discusses the history of traditional Cornish and the reasons for its decline and dismissal. The second part offers an overview of the revival movement since its beginnings in 1904 and analyses the current situation of the language in all possible domains. Overview of Historical Background The Cornish language, unlike the Anglo-Cornish dialect, which is an English dialect spoken in Cornwall, is one of the three living members of the Brythonic family, the other two being Welsh and Breton. The appearance of Cornish as a distinct language dates to about 600 AD as a result of the evolution of the Brythonic language spoken in the south-western region of Great Britain.
