She has qualifications in Sport Science and Coaching as well as further training regarding valuing people and diversity, research methods and a wide experience of island life.

I am a hardworking, self-motivated, responsible person, with an articulate and outgoing personality. I enjoy facing new challenges and seeing them through to completion, whilst remaining positive and good humoured under pressure. Throughout my career I have developed a clear understanding of the . EDUCATION 2016 – 2018 Manchester Metropolitan University: PG Cert Professional Practice A modular approach was taken for this course to achieve a postgraduate certificate prior to the course no longer being supported by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). Completed modules: Research Methods and Methodologies; Valuing People and Celebrating Diversity; and a negotiated module on Cognitive Behavioural Approaches. 2004 – 2007 Sheffield Hallam University: BSc (Hons) Sport Science with Coaching (2:1) This course provided a broad, multidisciplinary approach to sport and exercise science. Analytical skills, knowledge and expertise were developed over the years whilst specialising in health and nutrition during the final year. 1997 – 2004 St. Ninian’s High School: A Levels: Information Communication Technology, Sociology and Physical Education. AS Level: Biology. GCSEs: 10 A* – C grades attained.

FURTHER QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT To support my role in public health mandatory government training courses have been undertaken such as data protection; freedom of information; and financial regulations and budgeting. I participate in relevant public health teleconferences, lectures and workshops on a regular basis, in addition to off-island conferences. Workshops range from effective report writing to social marketing to personal resilience and insights. Public speaking skills are demonstrated through presenting at the ASH International Conference and were developed through extensive experience promoting health initiatives across the island and the Institute of Leadership and Management, Essential Training Techniques course. I am a fully qualified smoking cessation practitioner, and have completed various health related physical activity; nutrition; and psychological based courses. I am also a fully qualified sports massage therapist with a number of fitness qualifications (available on request).

WORK EXPERIENCE 2016 – Present DHSC, Public Health Directorate: Senior Health Improvement Officer Needs assessments are a key aspect of this role, whereby evidence based research, guidance and quality standards are used to objectively review current services, strategies, policies and legislation to highlight any gaps and make recommendations. Stakeholder engagement is crucial with appropriate reporting and governance structures in place to progress needs assessments and see them through to business case and service specification; likewise for developing and implementing strategy. The 2017 Sexual Assault Referral Services needs assessment and business case are examples of this. My key work streams are sexual health and more recently poverty and inequalities, which focuses on the wider determinants of health supporting the implementation of the 2019 Director of Public Health Annual Report. Adverse childhood experiences is also an emerging theme in my portfolio, working collaboratively with the Department of Home Affairs. 2011 – 2016 DHSC, Public Health Directorate: Quit 4 You Specialist Stop Smoking Advisor 2011 – 2014 Department of Education and Children: Education Support Officer (Supply) and, Manx Sport and Recreation: Fit 4 the Future Physical Activity Referral Co-ordinator 2009 – 2015 DHSC, Public Health Directorate: Chair Based Exercise Instructor and Trainer, and a peripatetic Physical Activity Promotion Coach 2002 – 2013 The Children’s Centre: Healthier Outcomes Worker I was fortunate to be supported to conceptualise and cultivate a unique role promoting healthier lifestyles. Prior to this role I was a leader for the leadership in the community programme; after school and holiday club deputy manager; the under 8’s playwork manager; and contact centre team member.

VOLUNTARY WORK EXPERIENCE 2008 – 2011 Isle of Man 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games Organising Committee: To promote the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games I supported the education programme across the island. During the games period I was operational support completing the delegate registrations as the teams arrived on-island. 2007 – 2014 The Commonwealth Games Association of the Isle of Man (CGA IOM): My involvement with the CGA IOM was initiated through securing a graduate gap scheme, remaining in post for an additional year and continuing as a volunteer ambassador and promoter for the CGA IOM and the island thereafter. A great deal of experience was gained through a multitude of roles. I was the office manager for Glasgow 2014 (preparation), IOM 2011, Delhi 2010 and Pune 2008. In addition to being, the IOM liaison officer for the Queen’s Baton Relay prior to the Glasgow 2014 and Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. Aside from the competitive games period I monitored and updated the Zeus database, CGA IOM website and social media pages and also organised events to raise funds as the fundraising and appeals director. Prior to my involvement with the CGA IOM, I had volunteered in various other roles from being a classroom assistant in the island’s Primary Schools to setting up a netball team and being the team manager, coach and treasurer. My enthusiasm for volunteering started at an early age when I was a student ambassador for Sheffield Hallam University, as well as supporting other students across Rotherham via an e-mentoring project. In addition to this I received the Hallam Silver Award for volunteering on projects and leading a new project about learning through exercise and play in deprived communities.
