John Wagner has been scripting for 2000 AD for more years than he cares to remember. His creations include Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Ace Trucking, Al's Baby, Button Man and Mean Machine. Outside of 2000 AD his credits include Star Wars, Lobo, The Punisher and the critically acclaimed A History of Violence. Garth Ennis first came to prominence as writer on Troubled Souls, the Northern Ireland-set series he created with John McCrea for Crisis. As co-creator of Judge Dredd, Carlos Ezquerra designed the classic original costume as well as visually conceptualising Mega-City One. He also co-created Strontium Dog. Ian Gibson is responsible for the co-creation of The Ballad of Halo Jones (with Alan Moore), the hugely popular Robo-Hunter (with John Wagner and Alan Grant) and created Bella Bagley, an unfortunate character in Judge Dredd's world who fell head-over-heels in love with 'Old Stoney Face' himself! Steve Dillon is a fan-favourite 2000 AD writer and artist, and the creator of both Hap Hazzard and the Irish Judge Joyce, who appears in several Judge Dredd stories. Dean Ormston's otherworldly pencils first graced the Judge Dredd Megazine, where he contributed to the epic Judgement Day saga, and pencilled the popular Raptaur. Peter Doherty is primarily known to fans of the Galaxy's Greatest Comic as artist of the Young Death series, which opened the Judge Dredd Megazine's first volume, but he has also contributed extensively to Judge Dredd, working on the epic Judgment Day as well as many shorter stories. The stunning painted artwork of Greg Staples has been a cover fixture of 2000 AD for some years, but Staples has also contributed interiors, working on Brigand Doom, The Clown, Downlode Tales, Judge Dredd, Sinister Dexter, Slaine, Tales of Telguuth and Terror Tales. Sean Phillips has become one of the comics industry's most acclaimed artists, and is fondly remembered by 2000 AD fans as the co-creator of Armitage and Devlin Waugh. Simon Coleby has worked extensively for 2000 AD provding the art for various strips including Rogue Trooper, Judge Dredd, Low Life and Sinister Dexter. Chris Halls (better known as Chris Cunningham) illustrated a few Judge Dredd strips before becoming the highly successful music video director responsible for Aphex Twin's Come to Daddy and Window Licker, Bjork's All Is Full of Love and Madonna's Frozen. Yan Shimony has worked on both a Judge Dredd story and a Judge Hershey story for the Judge Dredd Megazine. Other books in this series. The latest in the smash-hit, best-selling graphic novel series! Judge Kraken is a fictional character in the Judge Dredd comic strip featured in the long-running British comic 2000 AD . Although he only appeared in a few episodes, he was nonetheless a very important character in Tale of the Dead Man , in which he was given almost equal billing with Dredd, and in the epic story Necropolis , in which he actually replaced Dredd as the lead character in the first half of the story. Kraken first appeared by name in 2000 AD #583 (July 16, 1988). Contents. Biography [ edit | edit source ] Kraken was cloned from the DNA of Chief Judge Fargo, and was therefore effectively Judge Dredd's twin brother (since Dredd was also cloned from the same source). However he was actually many years younger than Dredd. [1] Kraken was originally not a judge but one of the Judda, a rogue army of clones created by the renegade Judge Morton Judd from the DNA of Mega-City One's greatest judges, and hidden in a secret base within Ayers Rock. In 2110 Judd sent his army into the Grand Hall of Justice, using teleporters in a surprise attack in an attempt to take control of the city and install himself as chief judge. [2] After Dredd foiled the attack (killing Judd and most of the Judda), Kraken was taken prisoner. When the other prisoners were either executed or committed suicide, he alone was spared. [3] Kraken underwent a lengthy process of deprogramming in order to overcome his loyalty to the Judda. He was then trained to become a judge. Chief Judge Silver secretly intended that Kraken would eventually replace Dredd, who had been showing increasing signs of disillusionment with the Justice Department. [4] Matters finally came to a head in the events recounted in the story Tale of the Dead Man , when Dredd was assigned to supervise Kraken (now a rookie judge) to assess his suitability for graduation to full street judge.

Generated by ABC Amber LIT Converter, http://www.processtext.com/abclit.html About these Study Guides I created these study guides to help my students prepare for literature classes. They are meant to serve several functions. 1) Some of them provide background to help readers understand what they are reading and why they are reading it (the historical status of the works). 2) They provide useful information, explaining allusions, obscure terms, etc. in the texts and provide translations of passages written in languages other than English. 3) They try to focus students' attention on issues that we will discuss in class. Rationale One of the most common student complaints in literature classes is that they can't figure out what the teacher expects them to get out of the assignments. Homework turns into a massive guessing game, failing which, students wait for the teacher to clarify things in class. This makes for sluggish or nonexistent discussions. Students using these guides can read with more purpose. They know what issues I am going to want to them to deal with in class and can prepare much better. I require my students to prepare written answers to the questions in these guides and come to class prepared to answer any one of them. At the beginning of class I collect the notes along with the quizzes. Not every question must be answered in the notes but they must show a diligent effort at preparation. Since I began using these guides, few students come to class without having both read and thought about the assignment, and discussions have improved enormously.

JUDGE DREDD: THE DAY THE LAW DIED PDF, EPUB, EBOOK John Wagner,Brian Bolland,Mick McMahon,Dave Gibbons | 160 pages | 24 May 2012 | Rebellion | 9781781080092 | English | Oxford, United Kingdom Judge Dredd: the Day the Law Died PDF Book Unlike his father, who became a full judge in his first story, Cadet Giant remained a cadet for five years during his recurring appearances in the strip. IDW's stories are not necessarily on the same canon as AD's. The Council unanimously chose Silver for the highest office. Max Normal [] was, for a while, Judge Dredd's best informant. He was responsible for employing Vitus Dance and Orlok to assassinate a rival criminal, and instigating the Second Robot War. He was assassinated in prog 89, but returned in flashbacks in the story Origins — He partnered with Dredd when Dredd was sent to Ireland to extradite a suspect in , with his laidback approach to law enforcement and fondness for drink annoying the Mega-City Judge; for his part, he tried to get Dredd to relax. All of Indonesia's islands are now linked by a network of mutant coral called "The Web", described as a lawless hotbed of crime, although a city called Djakarta did exist there at one point but was lost on Judgement Day. He often used mind control drugs to force his victims to kill others or themselves. After killing his mother and sister, he meets three like-minded, younger Judges who become his lieutenants. To his later shame, in the early s he was one of the many judges who agreed with Morton Judd 's ideas of genetically altering the citizens to be more docile.

Dark night of the soul: Applicability of theory in comics and radio through the scripted podcast drama Leslie McMurtry, University of Salford Abstract This article responds to McCloud’s theoretical framework for comics and applies this framework to audio drama, which I argue is, like comics, a mono-sensory medium (one can only be seen in static image and the other can only be heard); both require a great degree of closure from the audience to frame together sequential narratives (of visual art and sound, respectively). To do this, it uses the case study of Marvel and Stitcher’s Wolverine: The Long Night (2018), a ‘scripted podcast’ (audio drama). While comics are escaping from decades of critical disregard due to their status as a popular or lowbrow medium, radio and by extension audio drama still suffer from critical neglect.
