    SILK WAY RALLY 2017: A hard stage for Gerard De Rooy and his PETRONAS De Rooy IVECO Teammates Dutchman Ton Van Genugten finished the 5th leg from Astana to Semey in 10th position on his IVECO Trakker, just ahead of Kazakh pilot Artur Ardavichus aboard his #310 Powerstar Team leader Gerard De Rooy, after a great departure on his completely renovated Powerstar, was forced to stop at the CP2 because of mechanical problems later resolved at the bivouacs Today Team PETRONAS De Rooy IVECO will be engaged in the sixth leg from Semey to Urdzhar Semey, 13th July 2017 The 7th edition of the Silk Way Rally is underway. The participants started early yesterday morning in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan capital, and headed for the city of Semey. The route – more than 870 km long – included 329.25 km across the amazing landscapes of the Kazak steppe. In spite of a very good start, Gerard De Rooy, co-driver Moi Torrallardona and the experienced Polish mechanic Rodewald, were forced to stop the truck before the finish line, exactly at the CP2. “We started this morning well motivated – said De Rooy – but unfortunately, after about 100 km, we decided to stop at CP2 because of a mechanical problem.” It was not an easy day for IVECO: Ton Van Genugten, behind the wheel of his #306 Trakker Evolution, finished the stage in 10th position, 51m42s behind the first. After stage 5, the driver is 10th also in the partial general classification. Artur Ardavichus and Belgian co-pilot Bruynkens drove the #310 Powerstar avoiding to take risks and closed the day just behind teammate Van Genugten: for the Kazakh pilot the result of this 5th leg confirmed his 5th position in the truck overall classification of the Silk Way Rally.

Indeed, this is an extremely challenging year for all of us and we are well aware of this. We are adapting the organization of the event as best as possible so that this World Rally Championship and life size rehearsal before Dakar is a success. The current health circumstances have forced us to make choices in order to protect the Moroccan people and the competitors by limiting contact and taking special measures. This year, the Rallye will be organized around an XXL bivouac near M’Hamid, south of Zagora. If the nomadic character is assessed under the current circumstances, the Rallye du Maroc remains faithful to its DNA: Be the most accessible international Rally Raid with categories designed for new adventurers, allowing them to progress at their own pace and means, alongside the best pilot and co-pilots in the world. Prepare effectively for the Dakar, whether it is a short-term project or a long-term goal. The Rallye du Maroc benefits from the “Road to Dakar” Label, thus meeting the demanding criteria in terms of safety and sports organization that this implies. After a gap of two years, this classic rally raid, which has been the stuf of dreams for many a competitor, is back on the international calendar. Since 2013, they have all been looking forward to heading back over the Russian steppes, and then to follow in the footsteps of Marco Polo. With the event starting from Moscow and finishing in Beijing, the competitors will have to cover over 10,000 km at a good pace in order to reach their goal. Team DESSOUDE will obviously be taking part, with three cars entered in the 2016 edition of this new formula ‘Silk Way’. Frédéric CHAVIGNY, a regular of the Saint-Lô based team for a number of years, and the team’s local driver, will be back in the cockpit of his Dessoude Atacama Proto along with a brand-new co-driver, Igor MOTKO.     Press information Engines from Liebherr for successful Kamaz racing trucks in Dakar rally Bulle, FR (Switzerland) March 31, 2014 – Among the 75 trucks that took up the starting position in January 2014 for the Dakar rally, five were trucks from Kamaz Master, the motor sport team from the Russian company Kamaz OJSC. Three of the trucks were equipped with 8-cylinder engines from Liebherr. In the overall ranking, the trucks gained third and fifth place. The third truck had to retire during the second stage of the race due to an accident on difficult terrain. In mid- March 2014, one of the trucks used in the rally and its driver, Eduard Nikolaev, came to visit Liebherr Machines Bulle SA where the engines were developed and manufactured. Kamaz in Dakar rally The Dakar rally, or better known simply as The Dakar, is one of the toughest challenges for drivers, vehicles and their components. Since 2009, for reasons of safety, its venue is no longer North Africa but Latin America instead. In 2014, a total of 204 vehicles crossed the finishing line in Valparaíso, Chile, in the motorcycle, quad, car and truck categories – which equates to only about 47% of all of the vehicles that started. In the trucks category, 71 vehicles started from Rosario in Argentina. Of that number, 50 reached the finish line after an overall distance of about 9370 km, spread over 13 stages. The Kamaz Master team, formed 25 years ago, has dominated the event in the truck sector for many years and has won a total of twelve times since 1996.

Along the route competitors will complete 14 stages and cross three countries – Russia, Kazakhstan and China – on a route totalling 9,608 km. IVECO has joined forces once again with the PETRONAS De Rooy IVECO Team: three IVECO trucks – two Powerstars and one Trakker – will compete, backed up by their support team. After technical and administrative checks, the rally gets underway with the first three stages in the Republics that span the Volga and the Bashkortostan regions of Russia. The subsequent four days will be particularly intensive, against the backdrop of the extraordinary landscape of Kazakhstan's steppes. The first Chinese stage will be followed by a rest day – July 16 in Urumqi – that will open the Gobi Desert leg.
