Novi Sad is the second largest town in Serbia. The town is rather different from Belgrade in style, tough just 75 km away (architecturally, historically, by way of life, tradition...). Dunavska street is one of the oldest and most beautiful streets in Novi Sad. The Novosadska Synagogue with Jewish school and Jewish community represents a cultural and historic complex of great importance. It is constructed by a famous Budapest architect Lipot Baumhorn. Its construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1909. In 1991 Synagogue was added to Spatial Cultural-Historical Units of Great Importance list, and it is protected by the Republic of Serbia. The Name of Mary Church is the largest church in Novi Sad and is located in the city centre on the Trg Slobode (Liberty Square). In 1891, the city council made a decision to demolish the old church and to build a new one on the same location. -
