2021 Web Calendar.Pdf TENANTS’ FORUM CALENDAR 2021 choice-housing.org Message from Chair, Choice Tenants’ Central Forum As Chair of the Tenants’ Forum and on behalf of the Editorial Team, I would like to introduce you to our 2021 Choice calendar. Our Editorial Team is made up of tenants and staff working together on numerous publications - most notably Choice News and this annual calendar. We hope you find the calendar useful as it has lots of space to record those special dates and events – as well as highlighting bank holidays and other important occasions. Also included is some information on the services Choice offer, as Choice Tenants’ Forum Editorial Team: well as opportunities the Association provides for tenants to engage. Julita Boyle, Bill Jeffrey, Geraldine McKee, Billy McKee, Rita Murray, Sylvia Shaw, James Watson and Siobhan Rogan. ‘Together we enrich lives’ is the mission statement at Choice and working together with tenants to improve services and create good homes is a cornerstone of what this Association does. Your feedback can help us shape and improve these services. We have a number of interesting ways for you to get involved. Choice provides help and support to tenants where necessary and I know this will go on in the months ahead.     FID IN FOCUS Fall Newsletter 2020 A message from incoming Board Chair Bret Schaefer I am honored to be the incoming Board Chair of FID, following Richard Cheung, who has been an incredible leader of this organization for the past several years. I have been serving as Treasurer, and so have seen the tremendous growth that Friends In Deed has experienced, both financially and programmatically. We are serving so many more people in need, but providing our critical services with the same hallmark compassion, connection, and dignity. Of course, during these extremely difficult times of COVID, there have been unprecedented challenges. I am proud of our staff, volunteers and board of directors for stepping up and meeting these challenges head on, adapting our programs to meet the needs of our community, and doing it so successfully. The foundation for the long-term success of FID is the dedicated support we receive from the community both in terms of volunteers and financial support. We are especially gratified by the increased level of donations we have received in response to the economic hardship our most vulnerable neighbors have experienced this year. I am hopeful that our current challenges will inspire the community to support redoubled efforts to serve the homeless and disadvantaged in Pasadena. So, thanks to all you for being part of our team! There were eight new entries to the top 100 for boys: Cameron, Colin, Daire, Emmanuel, Karl, Max, Reece and Ruairi. The highest new entry was Colin and the highest climber was Kian which rose from 268th place in 1998 to 65th place in 2003. First time entries to the top 100 are Ruairi, Emmanuel and Max.     Tony DeMarco and the Atlantic Wave includes Tony DeMarco, Siobhan Butler, Donie Carroll, Sean Earnest, and Martin O’Connell Tony DeMarco was born on May 20, 1955, the second of three children raised in East Flatbush by Paul DeMarco and his wife, the former Patricia Dempsey. Paul, a grandson of Italian immigrants, was a teenage lightweight boxing star who turned down an offer to turn pro and work with lightweight champ Paddy “Billygoat” DeMarco in order to pursue a more conventional career on Wall Street. Tony’s maternal grandfather Jimmy Dempsey was a New York City cop and a son of Irish immigrants who married Philomena “Minnie” Fenimore, one of several Italian-American siblings who married into Brooklyn Irish families. Musical ability runs on both sides of Tony’s family. During the Prohibition years, Minnie Dempsey’s Italian immigrant father ran a speakeasy in East New York, where he played the piano and mandolin. Tony’s paternal uncle Louie DeMarco was a singer who performed with 1950s doo-wop groups, including “Dickie Dell and the Ding Dongs.” Tony’s cousin John Pattitucci, from the Fenimore side of the family, is a leading professional bass player who has recorded with jazz stars Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter. But Tony definitely found his way to Irish traditional music via a different path than the one trod by musicians raised in Irish immigrant households. As he puts it: “I never grew up with the competitive Comhaltas scene—I came through the hippie scene, the folkie scene.” His first exposure to Irish traditional music was through a Folkways recording of the County Sligo fiddler Michael Gorman.
