Penduka Village was established in 1992 as a welfare project offering training and employment to women, with particular focus on the empowerment of disadvantaged, marginalised and disabled women. It has subsequently been registered as the Penduka Trust.

Although Penduka is probably best known for the high- quality craft production that is sold on site at the shop and at the weekly Green Bio Market, it also attracts many local clients and tourists in search of a unique venue for accommodation, conferences and events.

The production and hospitality programmes of Penduka have created full-time and part-time work for hundreds of women over the years. Some of the ladies work at the centre’s studios on a full-time basis, while others work from home, obtaining the materials from Penduka and delivering the finished product for payment.

Attractive bungalows, backpacker rooms and campsites, set in spectacular scenery surrounded by rich birdlife are available for tourists and conference attendees. A typical Namibian menu is offered by the restaurant, using home- grown greens and eggs from Penduka’s own chickens. The Penduka restaurant operates as a well-equipped daily restaurant and can cater for private or corporate events.
