Four Snow VB Players Commit to Play for Four-Year Schools

EPHRAIM, Utah—A successful season has Snow College volleyball players heading north, south, east and west as four sophomores have committed to play at four-year schools on National Letter of Intent Day. They are Amy Sorensen who is heading west to play at Oregon State University (PAC-12, NCAA Div-I), Annie Smoot going north to Montana Tech (Frontier Conference, NAIA), Katie Vincent east to High Point University in North Carolina (Big South Conference, NCAA Div-I) and Nicole Koehler south to Dixie State University in St. George, Utah (PacWest, NCAA Div-II).

Sorensen, a 6’0” outside hitter from Sandy, Utah, (Jordan HS) was named as an NJCAA Second Team All- American following the Lady Badgers’ 16-9 season. Sorensen led the Badgers in both kills (278) and digs (222) as a sophomore. Oregon State (Corvallis, Ore.) was 14-18 overall last season, and managed only 4-16 in the PAC-12. But the Beavers are a young squad with only one senior on this year’s roster.

Smoot, 5’11” outside hitter from Holladay, Utah, (Olympus HS) will be playing for the Ore Diggers of Montana Tech of The University of Montana located in Butte. Smoot will being playing matches in Utah as Montana Tech plays in the Frontier Conference along with Westminster College in Salt Lake City. The Ore Diggers were 18-11 overall last season and finished in fifth place in the nine-member conference at 8-8.

Vincent, from Brigham City, Utah, (Box Elder HS) had 161 kills for the Badgers as a 6’1” middle hitter this past season. A two-sport athlete, Vincent also played for the Lady Badger basketball squad during her freshman year at Snow. Vincent will be playing for the High Point Panthers in High Point, N. Car. The Panthers were 21-11 overall this season and 9-5 in league play, good enough for third place in the Big South Conference. The Panthers face conference foes in North and South Carolina (such as Coastal Carolina and Winthrop) as well as Virginia (Radford and Liberty).

Koehler, 6’0” outside hitter from Alta HS in Sandy, Utah, had 119 kills for the Lady Badgers. She will be playing for Dixie State (7-14 in 2012) which plays in the Pacific West Conference with members in California, Arizona and Hawaii. Dixie will travel to Hawaii to face conference foes UH-Hilo, Hawaii Pacific University and BYU- Hawaii on consecutive days during the last week of October.

“I’m so proud of what these women have accomplished,” said Snow head coach Keven Johns. “They have helped us establish a tradition of excellence at Snow that will continue for a long time. With as hard as they all work, they can’t help but be successful at their new schools.”

Snow College, the oldest two-year college west of the Mississippi, was founded in 1888 and plays volleyball in the highly respected Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC). Snow, which has a second campus in Richfield, Utah, has a total enrollment of 4,500 students. This past season Snow’s volleyball team finished with an overall record of 16-9, finishing fourth in the SWAC, which was won by eventual national champion College of Southern
