Announcing Carrie Phillips, MD, Director of Renal Pathology Services

Dr. Phillips is an Associate Professor at Indiana University School of and Director of the Electron Microscopy Laboratory. Her area of clinical expertise is renal pathology with research interests in inherited cystic kidney and Alport syndrome.

Dr. Phillips received her MD from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Medicine. She completed an internship in Transitional Medicine at Highland General Hospital Oakland, CA, followed by an anatomic pathology at the National Cancer Institute (NIH) Bethesda, MD, and a renal pathology fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She completed a medi- cal staff fellowship in cardiovascular research at the National Heart, Lung & Institute (NIH). Dr. Phillips is board certified in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. She enjoys fly-fishing and plans to tackle her first Mini-Marathon in 2007.

Allergy Testing and New Regional Profiles: Three regional allergy profiles are now offered at Clarian Pathology Laboratory. These are in addition to the variety of allergens performed by ImmunoCAP immunoflouroassay listed on pages 7 and 8.

CPL’s On-Line Directory of Services has been updated. See complete instructions on using the website on pages 2-6. A new printed directory will be available soon.

C3 Complement QN and C4 Complement Body Fluid QN are no longer offered.

Ionized Calcium: Collect in Lt. Green, Green or Heparin Syringe. Send to lab on ice or refrigerated. Do Not open tube or split sample. Clients send DIRECT TO CPL (do not send to beltway or satellite labs) by Stat Courier!! Sample stability at room temp is only 1 hour. Sample stability on ice or refrigerated is 4 hours. If sample is past the stability criteria, test will be performed but with a disclaimer.

The ‘Search for a test’ section of the website provides the ability to search for a Clinical Laboratory Test by:

1) either selecting the number or letter the test begins with and locating the test of interest OR

2) a search field to type the name or number of the test.

The test above is an example of a test that can be performed on either blood OR CSF, i.e., a number of different types of samples. Cultures typically can be performed on a variety of sample types and require the source of the sample.
