  • Martin Creed to Unveil New Neon Work 'Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS
Press Release Martin Creed to unveil new neon work ‘Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’ on the façade of the Gstaad Palace Gstaad Palace Palacestrasse 28, 3780 Gstaad 21 December 2020 – 7 March 2021 From the 21 December, a new neon work by acclaimed British artist Martin Creed, ‘Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’, will light up the façade of the Gstaad Palace. The installation is organised by Hauser & Wirth and the Gstaad Palace in an ongoing collaboration, installing iconic artworks by artists from the gallery’s roster since 2019. This year’s special public display is made possible with the generous support of Alex Hank. Awarded the Turner Prize in 2001 for ‘Work 227: The lights going on and off’, Creed has become known for hugely varied work, which is by turns uncompromising, entertaining, shocking and beautiful. The work on view in Gstaad is one of Creed’s most well-known installations: the phrase ‘Everything is going to be alright’ has been used by the artist in a series of large-scale neon works since 1999, and has been installed across internationally renowned institutions and buildings, including the façade of the TATE in London, and most recently Braemar Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The phrase draws on the comforting words Creed was offered by a friend: ‘No one can really tell you everything is going to be alright, but despite that, many times in my life I have been very comforted by people saying something like that to me.’ The resulting work has never resonated so poignantly as in the current situation of 2020.

Burrows Submitted in fulfillment of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Sussex, May 2014 3 University of Sussex Karen K. Burrows Escaping the Honeytrap: Representations and Ramifications of the Female Spy on Television Since 1965 Summary My thesis interrogates the changing nature of the espionage genre on Western television since the middle of the Cold War. It uses close textual analysis to read the progressions and regressions in the portrayal of the female spy, analyzing where her representation aligns with the achievements of the feminist movement, where it aligns with popular political culture of the time, and what happens when the two factors diverge. I ask what the female spy represents across the decades and why her image is integral to understanding the portrayal of gender on television. I explore four pairs of television shows from various eras to demonstrate the importance of the female spy to the cultural landscape.
