Virtuososym Virtuoso Symposium South African Airways Cape Town 2016 Welcomes You to Cape Town
#VIRTUOSOSYM VIRTUOSO SYMPOSIUM SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS CAPE TOWN 2016 WELCOMES YOU TO CAPE TOWN South Africa is delighted to host the 2016 Virtuoso Symposium. As the national April 17, 2016 carrier, South African Airways is honored to be chosen as the offi cial airline for the Symposium. We extend to you a warm welcome to Cape Town and thank you Dear Virtuosos, for your support. Welcome to Cape Town! How appropriate that we meet for our 36th annual Virtuoso Symposium in the Mother City, a destination known for its cultural diversity, warmth, and sense of community. When I first talked about communities last August at Virtuoso Travel Week, I quoted Simon Sinek’s definition: “A group who agrees to grow together.” In effect, we’re the 2016 Symposium community who are here to forge stronger bonds through shared travel experiences, so please take a moment to join me in thanking our Symposium sponsor partners who play such an integral role in how we’ll experience South Africa together. They’re all featured in the pages that follow. The Virtuoso Events team and our Cape Town hosts have really outdone themselves with spectacular venues and personal touches topped with a myriad of Design Your Day activities to fully immerse your- self in South Africa. Whether wine lands or peninsula, sidecar ride or city walk, philanthropic or retail therapy, we’ve got you covered. Of course, we have you covered on the business side of Symposium as well. We’ll hear from three com- pelling speakers: Eric McNulty – Director of Research, Harvard’s National Preparedness Leadership Ini- tiative, Dave Pavelko – Partnerships Director, Travel – Google Inc., and David Scowsill – President and CEO, World Travel & Tourism Council. -

HVS Asia-Pacific Hotel Operator Guide Excerpt 2017
2017 EDITION | Price US$800 EXCERPT THE ANNUAL HVS ASIA-PACIFIC HOTEL OPERATOR GUIDE (AS OF 31 DECEMBER 2016) Pawinee Chaisiriroj Senior Analyst Daniel J Voellm Managing Partner HVS.com HVS | Level 21, The Centre, 99 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong The HVS Asia-Pacific Hotel Operator Guide 2017 Foreword It is with great pleasure that I share with you our fourth annual Asia-Pacific Operator Guide, data as of 31 December 2016. This fourth edition will continue to serve owners as a reference for which operator has a strong presence in their home market and in potential future markets further ashore as well as key feeder markets across the region. As more brands are created and/or introduced to the region, owners need to navigate a more complex environment. At the same time, M&A activities have created larger companies with a very large portfolio of brands. At the same time, we see operators building pipelines with limited-service brands that are easier to scale. Which operator to choose? Branding, anchored by the management expertise and distribution power that operators bring to a hotel property, is becoming more and more critical. In the face of increasing competition, non-branded properties often perform at a discount to their branded peers due to lack of awareness and quality assurance. Running a hotel is no easy task and owners have a tendency to view operators’ fees as unjustified for the value they deliver. It is essential that owner and operator align their interest from very early in the process and work towards a common goal, rather than start their long-term relationship from conflicting standpoints. -

Martin Creed to Unveil New Neon Work 'Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS
Press Release Martin Creed to unveil new neon work ‘Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’ on the façade of the Gstaad Palace Gstaad Palace Palacestrasse 28, 3780 Gstaad 21 December 2020 – 7 March 2021 From the 21 December, a new neon work by acclaimed British artist Martin Creed, ‘Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’, will light up the façade of the Gstaad Palace. The installation is organised by Hauser & Wirth and the Gstaad Palace in an ongoing collaboration, installing iconic artworks by artists from the gallery’s roster since 2019. This year’s special public display is made possible with the generous support of Alex Hank. Awarded the Turner Prize in 2001 for ‘Work 227: The lights going on and off’, Creed has become known for hugely varied work, which is by turns uncompromising, entertaining, shocking and beautiful. The work on view in Gstaad is one of Creed’s most well-known installations: the phrase ‘Everything is going to be alright’ has been used by the artist in a series of large-scale neon works since 1999, and has been installed across internationally renowned institutions and buildings, including the façade of the TATE in London, and most recently Braemar Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The phrase draws on the comforting words Creed was offered by a friend: ‘No one can really tell you everything is going to be alright, but despite that, many times in my life I have been very comforted by people saying something like that to me.’ The resulting work has never resonated so poignantly as in the current situation of 2020.
