Copeland - IXORA Aaron Marsh Bryan Laurenson Jonathan Bucklew Stephen Laurenson Copeland has reunited to release their sixth album after calling it quits in 2009. Here’s what you need to know: • Copeland formed in Lakeland, Florida in 2001. The band’s first album, Beneath Medicine Tree, came out in 2003 on indie label The Militia Group. The album’s layered melodies, combined with Marsh’s thoughtful, emotive croon, immediately engaged music fans, offering a nuanced take on the emo music of the early ‘00s. The group unveiled four subsequent albums between 2005 and 2008, including Eat, Sleep, Repeat on Columbia Records in 2006. Copeland signed with Tooth & Nail in 2008 and have partnered with the label to release their long awaited sixth album, Ixora. • In their heyday, the band played over 200 shows a year. They’ve toured with Brand New, Sparta, Goo Goo Dolls, The Rentals, Bob Mould, Switchfoot, Motion City Soundtrack and Guster. Copeland has also historically supported new artists and Paramore’s first ever show was opening for Copeland in Nashville in 2004. • Copeland officially broke up in October of 2009 after nine years as a band. They wrote on their website, “We have come to an extremely difficult decision. It has come time for us to move on from Copeland and follow other paths in our lives. To put your minds at ease, we assure you this is not a bitter break up. We all individually feel Copeland has run its course in our lives and it’s time for us to pursue what is next.” The band members added, “It has been discussed and we are not ruling out the possibility of recording one more album sometime in the future.” • The band members have pursued other musical endeavors over the past few years.

Market Headlines US consumer inflation rose 4.2% in April year-on-year, the most since 2008, ahead of the 3.6% rate expected and up from the 2.6% figure in March, further stoking inflation fears. The US Colonial pipeline reopened following the cyberattack, as it warned it would take several days before supplies returned to normal, with twelve states having declared a state of emergency amid consumers panic buying petrol and stations running dry. Japan’s service sector sentiment index fell to 39.1 in April, from 49.0 in March, the first drop in three months. The S&P 500 fell 2.1%, the Nasdaq dropped 2.7%, the Nikkei 225 dipped 2.5%, the Hang Seng lost 1.7%, whilst the Shanghai Composite closed down 1.0%. European markets were lower. Production Perspectives of Heavy Metal Record Producers Dr Niall Thomas University of Winchester Dr Andrew King University of Hull Abstract The study of the recorded artefact from a musicological perspective continues to unfold through contemporary research. Whilst an understanding of the scientific elements of recorded sound is well documented the exploration of the artistic nature of this endeavour from a production viewpoint is still developing. This study presents an understanding of the phenomenological aspects of Heavy Metal music from the perspective of seven renowned producers working within this genre. Through a series of interviews and subsequent in-depth analysis particular sonic qualities are identified as key within the production of this work: impact; energy; precision; and extremity. A framework is then put forward for understanding sonic elements of recorded Heavy Metal Music. The affordances of the digital revolution have subsequently changed the opportunities for those involved in the creation of such works. What is the inspiration behind Godkiller? A. When I was on tour with my first film Threat in Europe, I visited tons of churches and museums and was just really struck by the juxtaposition of pagan art and Christian art… and how much Vatican City resembles Disneyland. It’s as if religions and mythologies and cultures compete for disciples through art… that popular art is a battleground of cultural ideas. So I was inspired to create an ongoing, serialized, pop-art mythology for my people: fuck-ups and weirdos and misfits. Q. Is “illustrated films” just a pretentious way of saying “motion comics?” A. Ha. Yes. Well… No, I don’t think so anyway.
