Mayor Bloomberg Helps Open Five Soundstages in New York City 10:57 AM PDT 3/26/2012 by THR Staff Mayor Bloomberg Helps Open Five Soundstages in New York City 10:57 AM PDT 3/26/2012 by THR Staff The new stages cover 45,000 square feet at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn Navy Yard. New York City's Steiner Studios has five new soundstages -- now open for business. Mayor Michael Bloomberg helped celebrate the opening on Monday in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where he also announced new initiatives to add more jobs in the entertainment industry. Among the city's efforts in that arena: a new $500,000 training grant program in digital media; the addition of an entertainment-based field of study as part of an MBA partnership between the city and New York University's Stern School of Business; a request for proposals for a "Made in NY" Media Center, which would provide affordable work space and other resources to media companies. "A little over a decade ago, New York City struggled to attract the lucrative production industry to film here," Bloomberg said. "Now the City is such a popular and prosperous home to hundreds of films and television shows, (and) we have to work hard to keep up with the demand for stages and production facilities. These new soundstages at Steiner Studios will create jobs, and expanding our workforce development programs with new grants will help the next generation of production professionals start their careers on the right track." The soundproof stages encompass 45,000 square feet at Steiner Studios, which opened in 2004 and has housed production for such films as Inside Man and Sex and the City to the TV series Damages,Bored To Death and Boardwalk Empire. Last year, 188 films shot on location in New York, in addition to 140 television series. This spring, the city expects at least 13 television pilots to be shot in the Big Apple. .

Fey's reputation as a feminist—indeed, as Hollywood's Token Feminist, as some journalists have wryly pointed out—heavily inflects the character she plays, the "bossy" Liz Lemon, whose idealistic feminism is a mainstay of her characterization and of the show's comedy. Fey's comedy has always focused on gender, beginning with her work on Saturday Night Live (SNL) where she became that show's first female head writer in 1999. A year later she moved from behind the scenes to appear in the "Weekend Update" sketches, attracting national attention as a gifted comic with a penchant for zeroing in on women's issues. Fey's connection to feminist politics escalated when she returned to SNL for guest appearances during the presidential campaign of 2008, first in a sketch protesting the sexist media treatment of Hillary Clinton, and more forcefully, in her stunning imitations of vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, which launched Fey into national politics and prominence. [2] On 30 Rock, Liz Lemon is the head writer of an NBC comedy much likeSNL, and she is identified as a "third wave feminist" on the pilot episode.

February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. • Raised Wrong Educated Worse
DIBQUFS!2!! XIZ!BSF!UIFZ!TP!CBE@! § 1 ~ Products of a Flawed Socialization Process What is wrong with so many Black boys? Who is raising them to be so disrespectful? Why do they have such little regard for school and the entire educational process? Why are they so damn bad? These are the pressing questions that teachers, school staff members, parents, concerned family, and community members all across America are constantly asking. Some ask themselves, others ask their designated leaders, yet very few people are satisfied with the vague, one-sided answers that they have been getting. After reading this book, you should better understand the an- swers to these popular questions. It stands true for young Black males, just as it does for all human beings, that absolutely none of us act the way that we act out of a vacuum or simply because that’s the way that we always wanted to act. We are all social- ized first by our guardians and surrounding family mem- bers, later by school and our peers, and at all times by both our local communities and the greater society through powerful institutions such as the church, the government, the media, the entertainment industry, and civic/community organizations. Socialization is the process over time through which a child is instructed and encouraged how to act, as well as how not to act. Many factors play into whether or not an individual will accept or reject the behavioral ten- dencies that he has been trained to follow by his parents, 5 school, local community, and greater society.

  • An Analysis of Hegemonic Social Structures in "Friends"
"I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU" IF YOU ARE JUST LIKE ME: AN ANALYSIS OF HEGEMONIC SOCIAL STRUCTURES IN "FRIENDS" Lisa Marie Marshall A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY August 2007 Committee: Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor Audrey E. Ellenwood Graduate Faculty Representative James C. Foust Lynda Dee Dixon © 2007 Lisa Marshall All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the dominant ideologies and hegemonic social constructs the television series Friends communicates in regard to friendship practices, gender roles, racial representations, and social class in order to suggest relationships between the series and social patterns in the broader culture. This dissertation describes the importance of studying television content and its relationship to media culture and social influence. The analysis included a quantitative content analysis of friendship maintenance, and a qualitative textual analysis of alternative families, gender, race, and class representations. The analysis found the characters displayed actions of selectivity, only accepting a small group of friends in their social circle based on friendship, gender, race, and social class distinctions as the six characters formed a culture that no one else was allowed to enter. iv ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This project stems from countless years of watching and appreciating television. When I was in college, a good friend told me about a series that featured six young people who discussed their lives over countless cups of coffee. Even though the series was in its seventh year at the time, I did not start to watch the show until that season.

In this article we will explore how HBO came to legitimatise a contemporary television culture through producing distinct divisions ad infinitum, framed as being rooted outside mainstream commercial television production. In creating incessant divisions in genre, authorship and aesthetics, HBO incorporates artistic norms and principles of evaluation and puts them into circulation as a succession of oppositions— oppositions that we will explore throughout this paper.

THESIS RACIALIZATION, FEMININITY, MOTHERHOOD AND THE IRON THRONE GAME OF THRONES AS A HIGH FANTASY REJECTION OF WOMEN OF COLOR Submitted by Aaunterria Treil Bollinger-Deters Department of Ethnic Studies In partial fulfillment of the requirements For the Degree of Master of Arts Colorado State University Fort Collins, Colorado Fall 2018 Master’s Committee: Advisor: Ray Black Joon Kim Hye Seung Chung Copyright by Aaunterria Bollinger 2018 All Rights Reserved. ABSTRACT RACIALIZATION, FEMININITY, MOTHERHOOD AND THE IRON THRONE GAME OF THRONES A HIGH FANTASY REJECTION OF WOMEN OF COLOR This analysis dissects the historic preconceptions by which American television has erased and evaded race and racialized gender, sexuality and class distinctions within high fantasy fiction by dissociation, systemic neglect and negating artistic responsibility, much like American social reality. This investigation of high fantasy creative fiction alongside its historically inherited framework of hierarchal violent oppressions sets a tone through racialized caste, fetishized gender and sexuality. With the cult classic television series, Game of Thrones (2011-2019) as example, portrayals of white and nonwhite racial patterns as they define womanhood and motherhood are dichotomized through a new visual culture critical lens called the Colonizers Template. This methodological evaluation is addressed through a three-pronged specified study of influential areas: the creators of Game of Thrones as high fantasy creative contributors, the context of Game of Thrones
