Då den amerikanska duon N.A.S.A. tidigare i år släppte sitt debutalbum "The Spirit Of Apollo" hade dom en av tidernas starkaste gästlista. Bland de artister som gästade skivan återfanns Kanye West, David Byrne, M.I.A., George Clinton, Santogold, Karen O och Lykke Li. På grund av de många och tunga samarbetena tog "The Spirit Of Apollo" fem år att spela in. Men så blev resultatet även där efter - skivan är utan tvekan en av årets svängigaste album. Och nu är det klart att N.A.S.A. kommer till Sverige och Hultsfred i sommar. Festivalens hiphopprogram har fått ytterligare ett tillskott i form av svenska Kartellen. Kartellen har redan fått stort medialt genomslag på grund av att flera av medlemmarna sitter eller har suttit i fängelse för tunga brott. Bland annat återfinns misstänkta för det stora rånet mot Arlanda 2002 i Kartellen. Men på Hultsfred är det musiken som står i fokus och nu kommer landets första gangsterrapgrupp till festivalen. I fredags smygsläppte festivalen även en av Islands just nu mest spännande artister - electronicaartisten Ólafur Arnalds. BIO Born Matthew Fowler on Feb. 17, 1975, producer Mumbles has lived a life rich with musical diversity and spiritual inspiration. Raised in a family of professional jazz musicians along with older brother Marvin Fowler (Dj Marvski) of the U.N.I.T.Y. Committee, Mumbles developed an ear for jazz and hip-hop music from an early age. His father, Steve Fowler, a professional flute and sax player, along with uncles Bruce, Tom, Walt, and Ed formed a musical legacy spanning from the early 70's with the band, the Fowler Brothers. They played with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Bobby McFerrin, Linda Rondstadt, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, James Taylor and Brian Setzer, to name just a few. Being raised in such a diverse and musically stimulating environment, Mumbles tuned his ear early to the complexity of rhythm, melody and harmony. With the influence of his brother Marvski, he turned his attention to hip-hop music from the age of 5 (1980) and never turned back. In the late 1980's, Marvski along with Cut Chemist, Chali 2na, and Marc 7 formed the innovative group U.N.I.T.Y. Committee, which later along with the Rebels of Rhythm turned into the group Jurassic 5. It was during these pivotal years that Mumbles, being inspired by the production and record collections of Marvksi and Cut Chemist, decided to embark on his own mission of record digging, sampling, and beat construction. What started out lightly quickly turned into the digging obsession that most hip-hop producers are familiar with.

English, Communication and Cultural Studies. 2008 ii MUSIC VIDEO AUTEURS ABSTRACT Music video is an intriguing genre of television due to the fact that music drives the images and ideas found in numerous and varied examples of the form. Pre-recorded pieces of pop music are visually written upon in a palimpsest manner, resulting in an immediate and entertaining synchronisation of sound and vision. Ever since the popularity of MTV in the early 1980s, music video has been a persistent fixture in academic discussion, most notably in the work of writers like E. Ann Kaplan, Simon Frith and Andrew Goodwin. What has been of major interest to such cultural scholars is the fact that music video was designed as a promotional tool in their inception, supporting album sales and increasing the stardom of the featured recording artists. Authorship in music video studies has been traditionally kept to the representation of music stars, how they incorporate post-modern references and touch upon wider cultural themes (the Marilyn Monroe pastiche for the Madonna video, Material Girl (1985) for instance). What has not been greatly discussed is the contribution of music video directors, and the reason for that is the target audience for music videos are teenagers, who respond more to the presence of the singer or the band than the unknown figure of the director, a view that is also adhered to by music television channels like MTV.
