Objectives and results Elwak is one of the six districts of Gedo region of South Central Somalia. The chronic underlying factors such as poor child care and feeding practices, inadequate sanitation facilities and lack of access to safe drinking water remain long term challenges to the health and nutrition well- being of the population. The project’s overall objective is to contribute to the reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with acute malnutrition in children aged 6-59 months and pregnant & lactating mothers through the management of moderate acute malnutrition. To achieve this objective, a plan of food distribution will be implemented: food distribution points will be set in Elwak, Samarole, Hosqurun, Damasa, Nustariq, Dibayu and Busar, where COSV is already implementing OTP/SC programs. Plumpy sup of 2.76 kg per month per child will be distributed for moderately malnourished children aged 6 - 59 months and pregnant and lactating women on monthly basis along with the collection of anthropometric measurement for follow up purposes. Some of the staff already working in the OTPs in the area will be involved in the activities.
