FROM THE PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE

HAPPY ADVENT: Welcome to a new Liturgical Year! We begin again in the circle of reflection, this year with the Gospel of Mark for most of the year. Advent Time reminds us of our constant life of waiting, patience, faith, joy, hope and bringing ’s justice and peace to life while we wait for Christ to return. It’s my favorite liturgical season, in a challenging time of holiday frenzy. I hope and pray that the urgency that our scriptures and society press upon you will relax a bit as we take time to pray and experience the joy of the peace of Christ found in this liturgical season of preparation for Christ’s coming.

BELATED HAPPY THANKSGIVING: This weekend is ending the Thanksgiving season. We are grateful to all of you for your commitment and care to our parish. Thank you for participating in the Grateful Giving Offertory Enhancement Program and increasing your weekly donation to the parish to grow our parish’s ministries. Thank you for your gift of stewardship, sharing your time, talent and treasure. Thank you for sharing your “gift of self” (as Julian Eymard) by regularly participating in Sunday (or weekday) and devoting your time to being in our Community at Prayer, whether your designated sign up hour here at church or praying in your home or office. Your commitment to worship, prayer and service demonstrates your gratitude to God for the many blessings God has shared with you. Our country gives us one holiday to remember; our church gives us every day to acknowledge God’s giving to us through the celebration of Eucharist. Furthermore, we are grateful to the visitors you bring and the others you invite to join in our parish family. The sharing of our faith and the welcoming spirit that helps us grow as the Body of Christ enhances our community.

TALENTS SHARED: We have begun a new liturgical year and new liturgical music to accompany it for the Order of Mass. We are grateful to our very own Matthew Parrotta, chief accompanist for these past 22 years, for another contribution to our parish family, dedicating a Mass setting to us! Don’t hesitate to come up to the piano to say “thanks,” or drop him a note at the front office.

WELCOME NEW CATHOLICS : I had the honor of receiving two of our students preparing for First Communion into the Roman last Sunday (from the Lutheran Church): Caitlyn Christine Morton and her Bryan Robert. We pray for all of our young people preparing for First Penance, First Communion and Confirmation. We are proud of their faith development!

Let us share our faith with someone this week --- Let us continue to pray for each other and a spirit-filled Advent Time!

In Christ our Eucharist,

Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS Twitter: @jtlanesss

SAINT PASCHAL BAYLON SCHOOL NEWS The first Sunday of Advent is a time of new beginnings. It is the official start of the Church’s calendar. The faculty, staff, and students of Saint Paschal Baylon School will be busy making ourselves ready for the celebration of Christ’s birth by receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, supporting the Helping Hands Ministry, working together with buddies to send cheer to others in need, and preparing joyful music through our choirs and bands.
