Courses will be conducted on Saturdays in the institutes offering the related courses for both S.5 and S.6 students. S.1 Admission, Orientation Activities & Healthy School Life Secondary One Admission Our school will accept discretionary places. Our school will participate in the Secondary School Places Allocation System through central allocation stage (Applicable for admission to S.1 in September 2021). Criteria and weightings for S.1 admission: Internal Examination Result: 50%; Interview, conduct: 50% Orientation Activities and Healthy Life Orientation Day, Parents' Day, S.1 Orientation Day Camp, Summer Courses and Oral classes by native English teachers. To help students develop compassion and healthy eating habits, our Religious Education and Affairs Team and Civic and Moral Education Team hold "Healthy Vegetarian Day" annually. In addition, the Panel of Physical Education has held a number of sports exhibitions and participated in the "School Sports Programme". 佛教大雄中學 Buddhist Tai Hung College School Characteristics School Management School's Major Concerns: Modesty and Integrity, Humility and Self-discipline, Industry and Thoughtfulness, Initiative and Independence, Care and Compassion School Management Organisation: 1. Our school is led by the Incorporated Management Committee (IMC). 2. School development plans are formulated under the shared missions of all teachers, followed by the adoption of the PTA and approval of the IMC. 3. School Core Advisory Group and School-based Management Committee help the principal to implement the school policies. The School-based Management Consultation Committee consists of teachers of different seniority and functional groups to participate in school administration. 4. The Alumni Association, Parent-Teacher Association and Student Association work closely together with the school for our future development. Incorporated Management Committee / School Management Committee / Management Committee: The IMC was established on 31st August, 2009. School Green Policy: In order to encourage students to save energy and make good use of natural resources, "Energy Saving Regulations" have been posted in classrooms and checks are carried out throughout the year. We also respond to activities such as "Light-off for an hour", "No Air-con Night" and organize "No Air-con Day". To reduce waste products, students are encouraged to bring their own eating utensils to the school picnic or other activities. Recycling boxes are set up in the corridor of each floor on the school premises to facilitate classifications of waste products. Learning and Teaching Plan Whole-school Language Policy: We have adopted English as the medium of instruction (EMI) in some non-language subjects in some classes in junior forms. Both Mathematics and Science (S.1 and S.2) are taught in English. S.3 Economics and Science subjects are taught in English or have Extended Learning Activities in English. A series of school-based teaching and learning packages has been integrated into the curriculum for the sake of English learning. English learning is a priority of school development. We have held a variety of English learning activities, such as English Activity Days, NET Chats, Lunchtime English Performances, news presentations, science, music, visual arts and physical education activities in English. These activities enrich the English learning environment for the students and maximize their exposure to the language. Learning and Teaching Strategies: To further enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning: 1. Teachers participate in focused lesson observation and lesson study. 2. We train our students with a variety of learning skills. 3. We encourage learner autonomy by introducing read-aloud, diversified reading and web-based self-learning platform. 4. We have programmes to enhance students' English proficiency. 5. We help students of lower ability in learning Chinese, English, Mathematics. 6. We set up English Village and Mathematics Corner in order to provide extended learning opportunities for students. 7. We provide a balanced and comprehensive curriculum, covering study skills, life skills and civic, moral and environmental education. 8. We have timetables of great flexibility, incorporating reading periods and time slots for other learning experiences in order to cater for all aspects of the students’ learning needs, and to enrich their school life. School-based Curriculum: 1. Electives: 2X. Our school provides multiple elective subjects (33 combinations) for students to choose according to their interests and abilities. 2. Curriculum highlights: Based on Hong Kong educational goals and the central curriculum, together with the education goals of the school and strengths of the school, we have developed our curriculum which suits the abilities and needs of our students. To promote the development of the key tasks and diversified learning experiences of students, elements such as civic and moral education and social services are diffused into our curriculum. Our Academic Team is also committed to assisting teachers to develop different teaching strategies and techniques, such as life-wide learning, the use of information technology in education, cooperative learning and self-regulated learning activities. Development of the Four Key Tasks: We carry out different reading schemes, make use of information technology and implement project learning in order to promote students’ motivation and to develop their generic skills. Our Religious Education and Affairs Team, Civic, Moral & Environmental Education Team, Counseling Team and Discipline Team will run different
