O’Donovan, Division Director OFFICIAL LIST OF PUBLIC WATERS Published Pursuant to RSA 271:20 II (effective June 26, 1990) IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not use this list for determining water bodies that are subject to the Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act (CSPA). The CSPA list is available on the NHDES website. Public waters in New Hampshire are prescribed by common law as great ponds (natural waterbodies of 10 acres or more in size), public rivers and streams, and tidal waters. These common law public waters are held by the State in trust for the people of New Hampshire. The State holds the land underlying great ponds and tidal waters (including tidal rivers) in trust for the people of New Hampshire. Generally, but with some exceptions, private property owners hold title to the land underlying freshwater rivers and streams, and the State has an easement over this land for public purposes. Several New Hampshire statutes further define public waters as including artificial impoundments 10 acres or more in size, solely for the purpose of applying specific statutes. Most artificial impoundments were created by the construction of a dam, but some were created by actions such as dredging or as a result of urbanization (usually due to the effect of road crossings obstructing flow and increased runoff from the surrounding area). -

2018 White Mountains of Maine Summit Handbook 2018 White Mountains of Maine Summit Welcome to the 2018 Family Nature Summit! We are thrilled that you have chosen to join us this summer at the Sunday River Resort in the White Mountains of Maine! Whether this is your first time or your fifteenth, we know you appreciate the unparalleled value your family receives from attending a Family Nature Summit. One of the aspects that is unique about the Family Nature Summits program is that children have their own program with other children their own age during the day while the adults are free to choose their own classes and activities. Our youth programs are run by experienced and talented environmental educators who are very adept at providing a fun and engaging program for children. Our adult classes and activities are also taught by experts in their fields and are equally engaging and fun. In the afternoon, there are offerings for the whole family to do together as well as entertaining evening programs. Family Nature Summits is fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers who have spent countless hours to ensure this amazing experience continues year after year. Ver 8/5/2013 CHAPTER 8: NATURAL RESOURCES Photo: Kamal Nath 76 Ver 8/5/2013 8.1. Introduction Effingham Conservation Commission (ECC) assembled a Natural Resources Inventory in 2007. At its simplest, a Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) is an identification, description and compilation of a given Town’s Natural Resources based on maps and scientific data. Chapter 8 of this Master Plan is based on the 2007 NRI. The entire NRI is available in the appendix of this document. The primary focus of the Natural Resources chapter is to identify the natural resources in the town of Effingham, recognize the role these resources play in giving the Town its character and decide what strategies would best maintain this character (see Section 8.9 titled Natural Resource Goals). All of the community’s resources are interconnected and any change to one can have a significant impact on the others. As the population increases, demands on many of these resources will increase, possibly to the point of threatening the quality and quantity of the resource. The goal of this Natural Resources Inventory is to help develop a balance between development and resource protection within Effingham that will guide future sustainable development of the community. Nash Stream Forest MANAGEMENT PLAN State of New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development 1995 050 Nash Stream Forest FOREWORD The Nash Stream Forest is a unique parcel of land in Northern New Hampshire. Its acquisi- tion in 1988, through a collaborative effort between the state of New Hampshire Land Conservation Investment Program, the U.S. Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, The Trust for New Hampshire Lands, and The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests is equally unique, and serves as a milestone in state, private and federal cooperation. The diversity of the groups represented in this effort is almost as great as the diversity of resources that exists within the Nash Stream Forest and the topography of the land itself. Yet over an eighteen-month period, representatives from each of these groups worked together, to negotiate an arrangement which all felt was in the best interest of the land and the people who use it. All of the groups involved in the purchase and future management of the Nash Stream Forest recognized the importance of protecting the Forest from development, as well as the importance of continuing to use the land in a "multiple-use" manner—for education and research, as a key watershed area, for fish and wildlife, recreation, scenic qualities, and as a sustainable timber resource. These mutual concerns led to the successful purchase of the property, the formation of a Technical Team to assist in the development of a management plan, and to a gubernatorial-appointed Advisory Committee to focus public input and pro- vide insightful advice (see page 9). -

HIKES: A Checklist to Help You Pick a Hike 1) When picking hikes from the table above and list below, look at the “climb,” the “difficulty” & the required “agility level,” not just the distance! Know your limitations….. 2) ….If in the past year or so you have not done at least a three hour hike, then please do not sign up for any of our all-day hikes (all ~five hours or more of actual hiking)…. out of respect for your fellow hiking Summiteers…. 3) Every trail bend might seem perfect for photo taking, and we’ll all be snapping photos like crazy….Just please not so much as to be to the detriment of your fellow hikers or denying all of them the time to actually reach our hiking destinations! Thanks. 4) Traditionally, we call these “regular” Summit hikes listed below “destination hikes.” Natural and/or historical interpretation is not the focus of these hikes, unlike rambles and most other Summit programs. While your leader will often offer some interpretation, if you want the primary focus to be on ecosystems, plants, history, geology, birds, photography, environmental issues, etc., we recommend Summit rambles and other Summit programs. The Roost, Goose Eye Brook, Lost Pond, Table Rock, and the all-day Blueberry Mtn. hikes will over more interpretation than most hikes (historic on the first, natural on the others.) 5) Some veteran hikers, especially in the Appalachians, disdain mind-numbing, needlessly lengthy, often 2% grade (poorly designed) switchbacks, and hate flights of stone stairs replacing natural trails, both obsessions in recent decades by certain trail clubs. -

(Berger), has completed a Phase IA archaeological investigation for the proposed Granite Reliable Power Windpark (Windpark), Coos County, New Hampshire. The purpose of the survey was to identify and assess areas of archaeological sensitivity (or potential) and identify any archaeological sites within the area of potential effects (APE), which for this survey includes all parts of the proposed Windpark that will be subject to ground disturbance, including turbine construction, access road improvements and construction, collection line installation, and switchyard and substation construction. This investigation was designed in accordance with guidelines issued by the New Hampshire Department of Historical Resources (NHDHR). The Windpark is proposed for installation on private land in the central portion of Coos County, encompassing a total area of approximately 80,000 acres, of which the APE is a subset. The Windpark is located in a current logging area in the White Mountains region of north-central New Hampshire. The northern extent of the wind turbine locations within the APE includes the upper reaches of Dixville Peak. Moving south, the wind turbine area includes the named summits of Mt. -
