Welcome to the June 2015 Edition of the Donn Mcclean Racing Newsletter
Welcome to the June 2015 edition of the Donn McClean Racing Newsletter. Royal Ascot review Where to start with a review of Royal Ascot? There were some outstanding equine performances, like Solow’s in the Queen Anne Stakes, Time Test’s in the Tercentenary Stakes and Muhaarar’s in the Commonwealth Cup. And there was extraordinary human endeavour. Just about every single horse that Aidan O’Brien ran put up a performance that either surpassed or equalled its best previous performance. The champion trainer had five winners, and if the ball had hopped a little differently, he could have had six or seven. Ryan Moore had nine, more than any other rider in the post-war era. Moore has set the bar high, and he continues to raise it higher and higher. If there is such a thing as the best flat rider in the world, then Ryan Moore is it. There were other equine performances that might have been better than the bare form suggests, and which therefore may provide betting angles for the future. Bronze Angel did well to finish as close as he did in the Royal Hunt Cup given that he raced prominently from early in a race that was run to suit the hold-up horses, as the Royal Hunt Cup usually is. The Corsican made eye-catching ground from the rear in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes in a race in which the early pace held up well. Udododontu went for home very early in the Britannia, his turn of foot deployed just a little early in a race run over a stiff straight mile for a horse whose optimum trip is probably seven and a half furlongs. -

ENHANCED 36 RACE ROYAL ASCOT ORDER of RUNNING UNVEILED Friday 22Nd May 2020
ENHANCED 36 RACE ROYAL ASCOT ORDER OF RUNNING UNVEILED Friday 22nd May 2020 Ascot Racecourse today unveils the Order Of Running for the behind closed doors 2020 Royal Meeting (16th to 20th June). In this unprecedented year, there are several alterations to the programme, including six extra races being added to the fixture. There will be seven races staged on the first four days, with eight on the final card. The Buckingham Palace Handicap, lost from the card when the Commonwealth Cup was introduced in 2015, will open the meeting. A Silver Royal Hunt Cup (1m) and a Silver Wokingham Handicap (6f) are included for those who miss the cut for the main events. Also staged this year only will be the Copper Horse Handicap (14f, 4yo+), the Golden Gates Handicap (10f, 3yo) and the Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap (5f, 3yo). Her Majesty The Queen has graciously consented to these temporary new names. The Copper Horse is a statue of King George III mounted on horseback marking the end of the Long Walk in Windsor Great Park, adjacent to the racecourse; The Golden Gates are the ceremonial entrance point for the Royal Procession at the end of the straight mile; The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official residence of the Monarchy in Scotland. Amongst the changes to the regular programme are the movement of the St James’s Palace Stakes and Coronation Stakes to the final day, to maximise the time between them and the Guineas at Newmarket (6th and 7th June). In order to provide two-year-olds with as much time as possible before the key races at Royal Ascot, the two year old programme has been moved back with four of the six races to be staged on Friday and Saturday. -

SATURDAY, 23 MAY 2020 ROYAL ASCOT BALLYGALLON-BRED EXULTANT STILL DELIVERING IN HONG KONG by Alan Carasso REARRANGES, ADDS RACES Sunday=s Standard Chartered Champions and Chater Cup (2400m) at Sha Tin Racecourse is the last of 12 Group 1 events on the annual racing calendar in Hong Kong, one that has been significantly impacted first by social unrest in the region and more recently--and currently--by the COVID-19 pandemic. In many ways, Exultant (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) is emblematic of racing in the Special Administrative Region--a racehorse possessed of an iron constitution, showing up with his >A= game time and again. One that can deliver his best even when the deck is stacked against him, an animal that can put his rivals to the sword and simply outfight them. This year we will be offering a massive DOUBLE WIN ODDS boost on all Wesley Ward-trained winners at the Royal Meeting. Yes, if Wesley trains a winner, WatchandWager will double the tote odds! This pioneer American trainer has a fantastic record at the Royal Meeting, and WatchandWager offers the very best value to our USA clients. Our insider guide as a result focuses on Wesley Ward’s runners and all information is of course subject to running plans from the barn. For this reason, WatchandWager fully supports this project during Royal Ascot and in the future. Summary Wagering Tips are difficult to predict, especially with running plans uncertain in many races. Do remember some key points, though. Ascot has become a “course specialist” track, so note all previous successful form at the track. Also, if the weather dries up, be very careful about the draw bias on the straight track as it can be pronounced. -
Ward Confident He=Ll Have Another Successful Royal
TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2019 LETTER FROM ASCOT: FUGETABOUTIT! WARD CONFIDENT by Dave Johnson HE=LL HAVE ANOTHER The day before the Royal Meeting at Ascot begins, it is all about the humans who will be working over the prestigious five- SUCCESSFUL ROYAL ASCOT day spectacle. Some in top hat and tails, some in jockey silks. Many have pointed their skills, their horses, their hats and their bankrolls to this week in June. As for the jockey ranks, my humble feeling is that William Buick is the best rider in the world today. He has been a major winner at this meeting, as well as at Arlington, Belmont Park and Breeders' Cup events. He was injured one month ago at Ascot, when Sir Busker (Ire) (Sir Prancealot {Ire}) unseated him in the parade to the post. He is suffering post head-injury syndrome. Tough with no date to return, since he had G1 Epsom Derby winner Masar (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) and G1 Melbourne Cup champ Cross Counter (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) as his intended mounts. This subtraction of Buick is an addition for James Doyle, but even with those added Buick mounts, I don't think he can win more Royal Ascot races than Ryan Moore, since Moore is the go-to rider for Aidan O'Brien. And neither do the bookies. Bound For Nowhere, shown here winning the 2018 GII Shakertown S., Moore and O'Brien are so favored that the price is 11-10 that is one of a strong Royal Ascot team for trainer Wesley Ward | Coady they both will win jockey and trainer titles though this Saturday By Bill Finley evening. -
