Although they were not the winners on the diamond, Glenelg are to be highly praised for their professional presentaon of the grounds and facilies. The venue for the Capps Medal dinner and presentaon was changed a er a number of years to the funcon room at the Morpheville racecourse, and was generally seen to be a successful move. Once again, Dr Roger Capps, accompanied by his wife Helene, was in aendance to present the award to the runaway winner Todd Langman, who is to be congratulated for his win. As we all know, death is inevitable, but this year it seems that the baseball community has seen a larger than usual loss of a number of “icons” and respected supporters of our game. Without wishing to offend the friends and relaves of those whom I miss, I menon Ron Morgan, Noel Gully, “Bere” Haynes and Don Rice in parcular, and ask that those reading this report pause and reflect on the contribuon they made to baseball. South Australians connue to be recognised naonally for their involvement in baseball both currently and in the past, and this year the following were well deserved recipients of Baseball Australia Diamond Awards. Firstly, Lorraine Dunn was acknowledged as Official of the Year, and then Tony Harris was in a 3-way e for Coach of the Year. Subsequently, our old stalwart, Norm “Chalky” White was inducted into the ABF Hall of Fame, receiving a standing ovaon from those present at the funcon. Congratulaons to these three. Again naonally, the Adelaide Bite had great success in the inaugural season of the new Naonal League, falling at the last hurdle to the Perth Heat in the grand final. To all involved in this team’s success, players, coaches, administrators, volunteers, supporters and the local clubs a big thank you. This all helps to keep up the profile of baseball in this State, and it is pleasing to see that we connue to set benchmarks, parcularly in aendance and sponsorship for the other States to aim at. The weather proved to be a significant factor in the Naonal Youth Championships, causing delays and lost days. Not withstanding, our Junior State teams performed very creditably, with the Under 23’s being declared Naonal Champions. The Southern All-Stars Lile League team then won back-to-back Naonal Championships and are now training for a trip to Guam, where a win should see them on their way to the Championships in America. An excellent effort by all teams. This, of course, brings us to the maer of a baseball facility in Adelaide. Whilst there are ongoing discussions about several opons, there is nothing concrete to report. I would like to acknowledge the work of the Directors on the Board of Baseball SA who connue to work hard in their assigned roles and at the same me work together for the good of baseball in South Australia. In parcular, the new Directors have taken to their roles with an enthusiasm and objecvity which has been pleasing to see, and I thank them. Once again, the Tribunal had cause to meet on several occasions and I would like to thank them for their me and paence in handling o en contenous maers. As I write this report, it is likely that it will be my last as President of Baseball SA, as, a er eight years, I have decided that perhaps a new face and approach is necessary, and so I do not intend to stand again. To my successor, I wish all the best and hope that he can get the same sasfacon and support from the posion as I have. It has been an honour and a privilege for me to be allowed to occupy this posion and I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge a few people who have helped me in the role, starng with my wife, Sue. Clearly, I could not have done the job without her support. Thanks also to the staff at Baseball SA who, over the years, have dealt with my requests, the three General Managers I have worked with and, finally, my predecessor, who has connued to be a sounding board and source of support. Kevin Jennings 5 General Manager’s Report It is with pleasure that I prepare my first annual report as General Manager. It is an excing me for baseball in this state and naonally. Baseball connues to compete admirably with other sports in terms of increasing our parcipaon numbers both naonally and locally. The Australian Sports Commission (ASC), based on the outcomes of the “Crawford Report”, has meant addional investment into parcipaon programs. This investment is based not only on the importance of developing a feed- er group for high performance programs, but also on the indisputable and diverse array of benefits which flow from Australians being involved in sport. Through the hard work of the Australian Baseball Federaon, the sport of baseball has received monies to put to- wards a naonal program – with “Aussie T-Ball” to become our vehicle to increase the parcipaon numbers at the entry level of our sport. The “trick” will be to ensure we compliment this program with a transional program to increase the numbers of children into Lile League Baseball. This becomes crical to the growth of our clubs and the future funding for baseball in this country. Facility Development Baseball SA and the Board connue to work relessly to achieve a home for Baseball in this state. Our inial applicaon for a three diamond facility to be located at States Sports Park, Gepps Cross, was not pro- ceeded with in our State Government’s 2008 budget. Baseball SA was requested to resubmit an applicaon for a one state of the art baseball diamond, car parking, two change rooms, high tech scoring and media facilies, and an entertainment room capable of entertaining up to 120 people. While this applicaon was not proceeded with in our State Government’s 2010 budget, we remain commied to this project. Baseball SA and So ball SA have increased discussions with Adelaide Shores regarding a joint proposal, to upgrade So ball SA’s exisng two diamond facility. One diamond each for so ball and baseball with the ability of each sport to be able to use both diamonds when hosng a championship. Both of the diamonds to be lit to television standards. Talks between the two organisaons are connuing. Australian Baseball League – Adelaide ETSA Bite Aer years of planning the Australian Baseball League (ABL) held their inaugural season during 2010/11 with our Team – THE ADELAIDE ETSA BITE - going all the way to the Championship Round. Proudly supported by ETSA Ulies, our Team headed up by General Manager Pat Kelly, Assistant General Manag- er Nathan Davison and Howard Norman as Chairman of the Adelaide ETSA Bite advisory Board did our State proud on and off the Diamond. Our crowds at Coopers Stadium were the largest in the Country and we thank you all for your support. The Adelaide ETSA Bite Franchise was the most successful in year one of the ABL and they are not sing sll with a tremendous lot of work sll to be done. Congratulaons to the On Field Manager Tony Harris, his assistants and of course the players who performed magnificently over the season. We also need make menon of the kind sponsorship of the Adelaide ETSA Bite to our Youth State teams – whichenabled us to provide playing Tops and Hats to our Players. Our teams compeng in the Youth Championships are known as the SA ETSA Bite, building on a Pathway for our Youth to aspire. 6 General Manager’s Report - cont’d In excing News the Office of Baseball SA and the Office of the Adelaide ETSA Bite have moved into premises together at 3 Orange Lane Norwood. The Board of Baseball SA sees this as a crical step in the connued growth of our game in South Australia.
