For more information, please contact [email protected]. ADR AND DRUG TESTING IN PROFESSIONAL TENNIS: AN EFFECTIVE DOUBLES TEAM? RYAN M. RODENBERG* & KATIE A. FEATHERSTON** I. INTRODUCTION The sport of professional tennis is often described as a conflicted bowl of alphabet soup. Specifically, the number of acronyms with their hand in the sport is high - "WTA" (Women's Tennis Association), "ATP" (Association of Tennis Professionals), "ITF" (International Tennis Federation), "USTA" (United States Tennis Association), "LTA" (Lawn Tennis Association), etc. If the big three sports management firms (Octagon, SFX Sports Group, and IMG) are added, there are even more. With interests that are different in scope and purpose, a unified alternative dispute resolution ("ADR") mechanism to oversee drug testing and enforcement in professional tennis for both women and men would seem illusory, but it is not. The Tennis Anti-Doping Program ("Program") is a reality. The three primary governing bodies of professional tennis worldwide, the ITF, the ATP, and the WTA, have signed on to the Program, partnering to make the Program an effective, yet understandable, ADR vehicle for protecting the integrity of professional tennis competition.

Each year alumni of the Odlum Brown VanOpen add prestigious titles to their resumes, and so far this summer is no different with Andy Murray and Marion Bartoli winning the singles titles at Wimbledon. As we prepare for our 12th year, we are very excited to see "who is next" in our 2013 field of players. The men's field has been released and contains a large depth of Grand Slam level experienced players from around the globe. It is a superb representation of international talent with players from Canada, the United States, Germany, Belgium, Australia, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Israel, South Africa, Great Britain, and Russia already committed. Vernon-born Vasek Pospisil returns to the tournament where he played his first professional match at the age of 15. He was a semifinalist here in 2011 and most recently reached the second round at Wimbledon. Pospisil helped Canada’s Davis Cup team defeat Italy in the quarterfinals this past April and will face Serbia in the semifinals in September for a spot in the World Group Final. Evgeny Donsky of Russia is currently set to be the event’s top seed with a world #65 ranking. Donsky is having a strong year, having reached the second round at the French Open and the third round at the Australian Open thus far. He also topped world No. 19 John Isner and pushed 2013 Wimbledon men’s champion Andy Murray to three sets in the Indian Wells Masters 1000 event in March.

    Andy Murray Articles 2004-2006

ANDY MURRAY ARTICLES 2004-2006 2004 Scots tennis 'courting disaster' Despite helping to produce world-class young players Scotland’s top tennis trainer has quit in disgust, writes Tom Lynch Published: 8 August 2004 There’s a wistful note to coach Murray’s voice when she recalls the moment. A hint of pride too. “I couldn’t believe that the kids I started off with when they were eight or nine were in the biggest tournament in the world.” Now, as a summer fog descends on her Dunblane home, Murray’s mood has changed. All the optimism has been replaced by frustration. Last week she resigned from her post at Tennis Scotland, disgusted at the lack of backing from the country’s sports administrators and its politicians and fearing that youngsters who have the talent to win top titles could be forced to leave the game. She is not alone in her thinking. According to Murray, three of the four tennis development staff in Scotland have quit this year, allegedly fed up with their puny resources. Next to go, Murray fears, will be the country’s outstanding crop of young players, forced out of the game because there is simply not the money to help them break through into the big time, to compete alongside the Tim Henmans and Greg Rusedskis for the top honours. The tragic thing is, she says, is that she and her colleagues have produced tremendous talents “against all the odds”. For, while the Scottish executive plans to spend £30m on football to make it competitive again on the world stage, funding for tennis has been slashed by 60%.
