He was so busy taking in the sights at the baseball stadium that he wasn’t watching where he was going. He bumped right into his father’s back. “Sorry, Dad.” His father laughed. “No problem. Which seat do you want?” Emmitt looked at the number thirteen on the back of the seat. Thirteen was supposedly an unlucky number, and he was going to need some luck if he was going to catch a foul ball. “I’ll take fourteen.” He squeezed past his dad and sat in seat fourteen. As the players took the field, Emmitt snapped pictures for his scrapbook. He cheered through seven innings, did the wave, and even got a foam finger. The game was great. But it was missing one thing. A foul ball. Emmitt wanted nothing more than to catch a foul ball. He was hoping he might even get an autograph or two after the game, and what better thing to get autographed than a foul ball? Every time a batter popped a ball into the air, Emmitt sprang to his feet. And each time, he’d groan and sit back down. He’d seen foul balls go over his head and fall short of his row. He squeezed his foam finger when the next batter came to the plate. It was his favorite player - Harry “the Hammer” Watson. WESTERN STANDINGS Division by two games over the Baysox. The title marked the franchise's third regular-season division championship in Team W-L PCT GB franchise history, winning the South Division in 2004 and the Western Division in 2010. This year, the Curve led the Altoona 74-66 .529 -- West for 96 of 140 games and took over sole possession of the top spot for good on August 22. The Curve won 10 of Bowie 72-68 .514 2.0 their final 16 games, including a regular-season-best five-game winning streak from August 20-24. Altoona clinched the Western Division regular-season title with a walk-off win over Harrisburg on September 4 and a loss by Bowie at Akron 69-71 .493 5.0 Richmond that afternoon. The Curve advanced to the ELCS with a three-game sweep over the Bowie Baysox in the Erie 65-75 .464 9.0 Western Division Series. In the Championship Series, the Curve took the first two games in Trenton before beating Richmond 63-77 .450 11.0 the Thunder, 4-2, at PNG Field on September 14 to lock up their second league title in franchise history. THE RULES OF SCORING 2011 OFFICIAL BASEBALL RULES WITH CHANGES FROM LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL’S “WHAT’S THE SCORE” PUBLICATION INTRODUCTION These “Rules of Scoring” are for the use of those managers and coaches who want to score a Juvenile or Minor League game or wish to know how to correctly score a play or a time at bat during a Juvenile or Minor League game. These “Rules of Scoring” address the recording of individual and team actions, runs batted in, base hits and determining their value, stolen bases and caught stealing, sacrifices, put outs and assists, when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, wild pitches and passed balls, bases on balls and strikeouts, earned runs, and the winning and losing pitcher. Unlike the Official Baseball Rules used by professional baseball and many amateur leagues, the Little League Playing Rules do not address The Rules of Scoring. However, the Little League Rules of Scoring are similar to the scoring rules used in professional baseball found in Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules. Consequently, Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules is used as the basis for these Rules of Scoring. However, there are differences (e.g., when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, runs batted in, winning and losing pitcher). These differences are based on Little League Baseball’s “What’s the Score” booklet. Those additional rules and those modified rules from the “What’s the Score” booklet are in italics. The “What’s the Score” booklet assigns the Official Scorer certain duties under Little League Regulation VI concerning pitching limits which have not implemented by the IAB (see Juvenile League Rule 12.08.08). -

2021 CVLL Junior & Senior Divisions Playing Rules Please take note that these rules are in addition, not a replacement, to the 2021 Official Little League Rulebook. 1. Home Team Responsibilities: The home team is responsible for the field set up before each game and conditioning the field after each game & practice. This includes putting out/away bases, raking and/or dragging the infield and LOCKING the boxes before you leave. The visiting team is expected to assist the home team. Both teams are responsible for cleaning up dugouts; garbage must be IN the can & not left loosely in the dugout. Failure to do so will result in reduced privileges of the field & equipment; and any equipment lost due to unlocked boxes will be replaced by the home team manager The home team is responsible for recording the score on the league website. 2. Minimum Participation Requirement: A. Each player on a team must play a minimum of 2 innings (6 outs) in every regular season game. a. NOTE: Any player that does not meet the minimum requirements due to the game being shortened because of weather or time limit must play a complete game at the next regular season game. B. CONTINOUS BATTING ORDER: Each team will make up a batting order consisting of all members of the team that are present for the game, regardless of the number of players present for the opposing team. Unlimited defensive substitutions are permitted, however all teams must abide by rule 1A (above). C. No courtesy runners or special pinch runners are permitted with a continuous batting order. -
Teaching Bunt Defenses Progression
Teaching Bunt Defense Many coaches make bunt defense too difficult and confusing by having ten different plays and having an intricate naming system. The defenses below are standard bunt defenses, nothing revolutionary. The real success of defending bunts lies in the team performing the general principals of the bunt defense. The numbering system below is just one possible naming system. It is entirely plausible to simply name your bunt defenses and not use a numbering system since it really doesn’t matter if the other team knows what defense your team is in. Initial Tactical Game: Set up a full infield including a pitcher. The offense starts with a runner on first base. Pitcher delivers the pitch and the hitter sacrifice bunts to advance the runner. Give no instruction to your defense and see how many of the rules and defenses they can come up with on their own. General principals of bunt defense 1.) Communicate “BUNT!” as soon as you see it 2.) Sprint to your assignment as soon as you see bunt 3.) Be under control when you get to the ball 4.) The quicker you get to the ball, the less rushed you are to make the play 5.) Pitcher must hop off to his responsibility after he finishes his pitch 5.) Set your feet! 6.) Cover every base (whoever doesn’t field bunt between P/3B has to cover 3rd) 7.) GET AN OUT!!!! Calling system: There are many numbers of ways to communicate bunt defenses to your team. This is just one system that may work for you The number 1 represents the first baseman charging The number 3 represents the third baseman charging The number 13 represents both the first and third baseman charging Call a three digit number, the first number represents who is charging. -

Ground Rules for the Baptist Village Baseball Field 1. The field has gates in the fence. There may also be one or more holes in the fence. Should a batted ball roll under a gate or through a hole in the fence and out of play, the fielder shall raise his hands to signal to the umpire that the ball has gone out of play. The umpire, upon confirming that the ball has gone out of play will call the ball dead and award the batter two bases. Runners will be awarded two bases according to the Official Baseball Rules, Rule 7.05(f). If a thrown ball goes under a gate and out of play, the ball will be dead and the umpire will award two bases according to the Official Baseball Rules, Rule 7.05 (g). 2. All parts of the outfield fencing are “in play” including the high “backstop” fencing in the right and left field corners of the outfield as well as any metal supports for the backstops. Should a ball hit one of the support beams and rebound back into the field, the ball will be live and in play. To hit a home run under the Official Baseball Rules, Rule 6.09 (d), the ball must go over the fence regardless of its height in a specific section or whether the fence has attached support beams. The judgment of the umpire will be final. 3. There is a tree in right-center field that is partly over fair territory. If the batted ball hits the trunk of the tree on the fly and rebounds into the field, it will be a dead ball and the batter and all runners will be awarded home base. -

Many misunderstandings on the field are the result of “Everybody Knows That…” rules myths. Listed below are a collection of common misbeliefs about Little League baseball and softball rules. Each of these statements are false. Clicking on each link will explain the correct ruling. 1. The ball is dead on a foul tip. Reality: The ball is NOT dead on a foul tip. Rule 2.00 FOUL TIP explicitly says that a foul tip is a live ball. Much of the confusion surrounding this probably comes from a misunderstanding of what a foul tip actually is: A FOUL TIP is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher’s hands and is legally caught. It is not a foul tip unless caught and any foul tip that is caught is a strike, and the ball is in play. It is not a catch if it is a rebound, unless the ball has first touched the catcher’s glove or hand. A foul tip can only be caught by the catcher. Thus, it is only a foul tip if the catcher catches the ball. A ball that hits the bat and goes straight back to the backstop is a foul ball not a foul tip. 2. A batted ball that hits the plate is a foul ball. Reality: For the purposes of a fair/foul determination, home plate is no different from the ground. As it happens, all of home plate is in fair territory, so if a batted ball touches it, it has merely struck part of fair territory. -
