Tilda and I moved out of the Rectory in Fincham over three years ago. What a move that was as we were seriously down-sizing in our moveinto the small bungalow here in Narborough. I have often joked since that if our new home had wheels it would be a caravan! The most painful thing we had to do was to get rid of furniture and household goods which had travelled with us through most of our married life. It had little commercial value but oh what memories it invoked. Some items of furniture our children took because they had known them for most of their lives. As we travel through life we do seem to collect around us goods and chattels which travel with us. Their importance is personal and subjective. However they are only things which we are instructed in the Bible not to store up for ourselves, as Jesus taught us in the Sermon on the Mount. We are told that we are just pilgrims and travellers on our journey through this life. This month we will be reminded again that we do not travel this journey alone. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, which is remembered by the Church this year on Thursday, 13th May, he promised that we would not be left alone and without comfort. That promise was fulfilled at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came to be our comforter and companion through this life. We remember this in Church on Sunday, 23rd May. God the Holy Spirit is with us, as Jesus God's Son promised and keeps us in touch with God, the Father. We will be reminded of the of this relationship on Trinity Sunday, May 30th. What a month for Christian celebration! What travelling companions we have if we will only believe and trust! What opportunities we have to celebrate these Church Festivals by being in Church on these three dates.
