Ministry of Tourism and Issue: 5 May Antiquities Newsletter 2020 Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities 78 Hotels in Egypt Receive the Hygiene Safety Certificate In May, 78 hotels in various governorates of Egypt, including the Red Sea, South Sinai, Alexandria, Suez, Greater Cairo, and Matrouh, received the Hygiene Safety Certificate, approved by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Egyptian Hotel Association. This ensures that they fulfil all health and safety regulations required by the Egyptian Cabinet according to World Health Organization guidelines. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has approved a Hygiene Safety Sign, that must be visible in all hotels as a prerequisite for them to receive guests. This sign shows the sun, characteristic of Egypt’s warm weather and its open-air spaces, encompassing three hieroglyphs "Ankh, Udja, Seneb" meaning Life, Prosperity and Health. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has formed operations centres in its offices in tourist governorates to inspect hotels that acquired the Hygiene Safety Certificate, to ensure their continued commitment and application of the regulations. The Ministry also formed joint committees to inspect hotels in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population, the Egyptian Hotel Association, and representatives from the concerned governorates. In the same context, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities posted a video in both Arabic and English, highlighting the most important information about the Health and Safety regulations. Former Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Zahi Hawass posted a video to the world explaining the Hygiene Safety Sign that must be available in all hotels. -

In Pharaonic Egypt certain species were sacramented (e.g. the sacred ibis, sacred scarab, etc.) or protected as public property because of their economic importance (e.g. papyrus: material for state monopolized paper industry). In recent history laws protected certain species of animals, but protection of natural habitats with their ecological attributes and assemblages of plants and animals (nature reserves) remained beyond the interest of government. The United Nations, with the assistance of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) published lists of nature reserves worldwide, and Egypt was not mentioned in these lists till the late 1970s. -

ISSN: 1492-3831 April – 2003 Reflections on Student Support in Open and Distance Learning Alan Tait, Guest Editor Faculty of Education and Language Studies Open University UK This is a very interesting moment to reflect on Student Support in Open and Distance Learning (ODL). After some 10 years of the radical intrusion of a range of technologies, principally those grouped around what has been broadly termed ICT, we have the chance to see if and how the world of ODL has qualitatively changed. I suggest that those of us who began our careers more than a decade ago are like those survivors in a landscape painting of a battle, peering about the field while some wisps of smoke still hang in the air from earlier cannon barrage. But the battle that the picture represents is over. There are new authorities in place, and of course there are losers: those who have lost power if not their lives. We look to see who has died, which amongst the wounded can be given help, while those who walk away wonder if the world has really changed. Have we just substituted one set of powerful rulers for another? Or has the way we live our lives been altered forever? To begin with a historical perspective on the European context, as is well known correspondence education is said to have begun in England in 1844 with Isaac Pitman's shorthand course delivered by correspondence, using the new postal system, enabled in its turn by the rail system that was beginning to make travel and communication across England quicker than ever before (Shrestha, 1997). -
The Relationship Between Local Content, Internet Development and Access Prices
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LOCAL CONTENT, INTERNET DEVELOPMENT AND ACCESS PRICES This research is the result of collaboration in 2011 between the Internet Society (ISOC), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The first findings of the research were presented at the sixth annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) that was held in Nairobi, Kenya on 27-30 September 2011. The views expressed in this presentation are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of ISOC, the OECD or UNESCO, or their respective membership. FOREWORD This report was prepared by a team from the OECD's Information Economy Unit of the Information, Communications and Consumer Policy Division within the Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry. The contributing authors were Chris Bruegge, Kayoko Ido, Taylor Reynolds, Cristina Serra- Vallejo, Piotr Stryszowski and Rudolf Van Der Berg. This comes in the framework of law no.4 /1994 on Environment and its amendment law no.9/2009, which stipulates in its Chapter Two on developing an annual State of Environment Report to be submitted to the president of the Republic and the Cabinet with a copy lodged in the People’s Assembly ; as well as keenness of Egypt’s political leadership to integrate environmental dimension in all fields to achieve sustainable development , which springs from its belief that protecting the environment has become a necessary requirement to protect People’s health and increased production through the optimum utilization of resources . -

Republic of Tunisia MENA-OECD Ministerial Conference Key Participants & Speakers – Biographies Hosts Mr. Beji Caïd Essebsi - President of the Republic - Tunisia Mr. Essebsi is the President of Tunisia since 2014. Previously, Mr. Essebsi held the position of Prime Minister for a brief period – March to October 2011. During his career, the President has held various high level positions, including Head of the Administration of National Security (1963), Minister of Interior from (1965-1969), Minister of Foreign Affairs (1981-1986) and President of the Chamber of Deputies (1990-1991). The President was also ambassador of Tunisia to West Germany and France. Mr. Youssef Chahed - Prime Minister - Tunisia Mr. Chahed was appointed Tunisian Prime Minister in August 2016. Before taking office, Mr. Chahed was Minister of Local Affairs in the previous government and previously held the position of Secretary of State for Fisheries. The Prime Minister is also an international expert in agriculture and agricultural policies for the United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the European Commission. Mr. Angel Gurría - Secretary-General - OECD Mr. Gurría is the OECD Secretary-General since 2006. The Secretary-General has held two ministerial posts in Mexico before joining the OECD - Minister of Foreign Affairs (1994-1998) and Minister of Finance and Public Credit (1998- 2000). Mr. Gurría chaired the International Task Force on Financing Water for All and is a member of several international initiatives, including the United Nations Secretary General Advisory Board, World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Water Security, International Advisory Board of Governors of the Centre for International Governance Innovation, among others. -

Fritz, Ph.D. - Member Abstract Egypt, commonly known as “Land of Civilizations”, is reputed worldwide for its distinct 7,000- year-old record of civilization and immense wealth of knowledge (Egypt State Information Service, 2008a). Egypt is the most populated country in the Middle East and the second most populated country in Africa. The population of Egypt is rapidly increasing. Its population was 59 million in 1996, and had increased by around 10 million people by 2006 (CIA, 2008). Currently, the estimated population growth is at 1 million people per year (CAPMAS, 2008). A basic challenge in Egypt is the impossibility of increasing its cultivable land to an amount that would sustain its increase in population (Tarver, 1994).
