Afonso Henriques, Guimaraes Match background Vitória SC entertain Konyaspor in Guimaraes with both clubs knowing that they stand only an outside chance of qualifying from Group I. • The two teams face the same scenario: to reach the round of 32 they must win and hope that Marseille simultaneously lose their final fixture at home to group winners Salzburg. A draw ensures mutual elimination. Previous meetings • The sides came face to face for the first time in Turkey on matchday two, Konyaspor claiming their very first European victory with a 2-1 success courtesy of goals from Musa Araz and Deni Milošević; Paolo Hurtado struck a consolation for the visitors. • Vitória SC have now lost all four of their games against Turkish opposition, their one away fixture ending in a 3-0 defeat by Fenerbahçe in the first round of the 1990/91 UEFA Cup. • In their only other matches against Portuguese opponents, Konyaspor took on Braga in last season's group stage, drawing 1-1 at home and losing 3-1 in Portugal. Form guide • Vitória SC have won just one of their last 12 European games (D3 L8), 1-0 at home to Marseille on matchday four. Prior to their 3-0 loss at Salzburg on matchday five, they had scored one goal in each of their four Group I matches. • Konyaspor have failed to win any of their five away fixtures in UEFA competition (D1 L4), scoring just one goal on their travels and conceding ten. • Fourth in the Liga and runners-up in the Portuguese Cup last season, Vitória SC are participating in their third UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League group stage. They failed to make it through in both 2005/06 and 2013/14. • Winners of the 2016/17 Turkish Cup, Konyaspor made their European competition bow in last year's UEFA Europa League group stage. They collected just one point from their six matches. Links and trivia • The journey from Konya to Guimaraes is around 3,500km. • Vitória SC's Uruguayan forward David Texeira played club football in Turkey with Sivasspor (2016). • This is Vitória SC's 64th UEFA game – and Konyaspor's 12th. • Suspended for next match if booked: Jubal (Vitória SC); Ali Turan, Jens Jønsson, Wilfried Moke (Konyaspor). The coaches • Vitória SC coach since summer 2016, Pedro Martins previously managed Marítimo (2012/13) and Rio Ave (2014/15) in this competition's group stage. A former Guimarães midfielder, he was capped once during his time at Sporting CP (1995–98). • Konyaspor boss Mustafa Reşit Akçay is back in the group stage for a third time, having coached Trabzonspor and Osmanlıspor in past editions. A youth specialist, he notably went unbeaten in his first 19 games in UEFA competition (W15 D4). 2 Vitória SC - Konyaspor Thursday 7 December 2017 - 21.05CET (20.05 local time) Match press kit Estádio D. PHYSICAL CULTURE AND SPORT. STUDIES AND RESEARCH DOI: 10.1515/pcssr-2016-0015 The Open Sore of Football: Aggressive Violent Behavior and Hooliganism Authors’ contribution: Osman GumusgulA,C,D, Mehmet AcetB,E A) conception and design of the study B) acquisition of data Dumlupinar University, Turkey C) analysis and interpretation of data D) manuscript preparation E) obtaining funding ABSTRACT Aggression and violence have been a customary part of life that mankind has had to live with from the beginning of time; it has been accepted by society even though it expresses endless negativity. Aggression and violence can find a place in sports events and football games because of the social problems of the audience watching the competitions or games, which sometimes fall into the category of hooliganism. Turkey is one of the countries that should consider this problem to be a serious social problem. Even during 2014 and 2015, a relatively short period of time, there were significant hazardous acts committed by hooligans. In February 2014, one supporter was killed after a game between Liverpool and Arsenal in England; in March 2014, a game between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce was left half-finished because of violent acts in the stadium that caused players in the pitch to believe that they could not leave stadium alive, although they finally left after a few hours; in another incident in March 2014, one supporter was killed after a game between Helsingborg and Djugarden in Sweden; in November 2014, one supporter was killed and 14 supporters were injured before the game between Atletico Madrid and Deportivo in Spain.

“It is about the flag on your chest!” Footballers with Migration Background in the German National Football Team. A matter of inclusion? An Explorative Case Study on Nationalism, Integration and National Identity. Oscar Brito Capon Master Thesis in Sociology Department of Sociology and Human Geography Faculty of Social Sciences University of Oslo June 2012 Oscar Brito Capon - Master Thesis in Sociology 2 Oscar Brito Capon - Master Thesis in Sociology Foreword Dear reader, the present research work represents, on one hand, my dearest wish to contribute to the understanding of some of the effects that the exclusionary, ethnocentric notions of nationhood and national belonging – which have characterized much of western European thinking throughout history – have had on individuals who do not fit within the preconceived frames of national unity and belonging with which most Europeans have been operating since the foundation of the nation-state approximately 140 years ago. On the other hand, this research also represents my personal journey to understand better my role as a citizen, a man, a father and a husband, while covered by a given aura of otherness, always reminding me of my permanent foreignness in the country I decided to make my home. In this sense, this has been a personal journey to learn how to cope with my new ascribed identity as an alien (my ‘labelled forehead’) without losing my essence in the process, and without forgetting who I also am and have been. This journey has been long and tough in many forms, for which I would like to thank the help I have received from those who have been accompanying my steps all along.

I contend that while fair play guidelines prescribe universalists standards of ethical behavior for all football actors, there are multiple instances in mundane football events which result in players’, fans’ or other commentators’ variant appreciations of the ethical. Specific contingencies give birth to alternative formations of fairness leading us to consider how ethics might be a matter of constant negotiation rather than of preset verdicts. Using legal anthropology’s insights on legal pluralism and sports philosophy’s discussion of conventionalism, I focus on specific footballing instances in Turkish football and offer various social rationales in regard to how multiple ethical verdicts might be reached. In this discussion, I include how some footballing conventions in Turkey come into conversation with the written rules of football and set guidelines of fair play to show that people draw on different sets of rules (written and unwritten) in their deliberation of fair action, fair play awards and ethics.

  • Reform Effectiveness and Unresolved Issues of the Football in the Turkish Super League
Ann Appl Sport Sci 8(2): e790, 2020. http://www.aassjournal.com; e-ISSN: 2322–4479; p-ISSN: 2476–4981. 10.29252/aassjournal.790 ORIGINAL ARTICLE Reform Effectiveness and Unresolved Issues of the Football in the Turkish Super League 1Francesco Addesa*, 2Mehmet Erdem Delice 1School of Sport, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds, UK. 2DISES, University of Salerno, Fisciano SA, Italy. Submitted 04 September 2019; Accepted in final form 22 November 2019. ABSTRACT Background. Following the successful outcomes of the national team, that finished third in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and the positive club performance in the UEFA competitions at the beginning of the new millennium, Turkish football was expected to reaffirm and further develop in the following years, exploiting also the favorable economic conditions. However, its growth and evolution did not meet the expectations, and in the latest years several managerial aspects of the Turkish Football Federation have begun to be questioned, which has led the federation itself to reform football in areas such as foreign players’ quota, financial requirements, and stadiums. Objectives. The main aim of this article is to identify and discuss these issues and how effective the reforms implemented by the Turkish Football Federation have been in the short run. Methods. The research is done through the application of the historical method and the use of secondary data. Results. Our results show that these reforms do not seem to have had a significant impact so far. Conclusion. While some of the reforms likely need more time for their effects to be tangible, the general impression is that Turkish football would need a different approach and more incisive policy interventions.
