St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church 14085 Peyton Drive, Chino Hills, CA 91709 (909) 465-5503 ● FAX (909) 465-1683 E-mail: [email protected] ● Web site: sptacc.org OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body of Christ. Dear Holy People of God: Fellow pilgrims, today’s gospel, Jesus tells us the drama of forgiveness that we should practice in our lives: Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.” The times we must forgive is told to us in number, “not seven times but seventy-seven times.” In other words, it’s “always” or “as long as it takes.” Jesus went beyond what was required by law, he removed all barriers that blocked the proactive act of forgiveness. For Jesus, forgiveness must emanate from the heart. It’s an act of love and must be unconditional. As long as the heart is beating, forgiveness is actively blessing; it never dies and it never ends. A product of forgiveness is “reconciliation-conversion.” Reconciliation is the charism of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette (MS). It’s a Religious Community that myself and Fr. Joseph belong. It’s an international religious congregation of priests and brothers, and was founded in response to the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at La Salette, France on September 19, 1846, to two children: Maximin Giraud and Melanie Calvat. The Blessed Virgin Mary – Our Lady of La Salette, has given us a message: one of RECONCILIATION - a call to conversion, which we continue to spread in 25 countries scattered around the world. In preparation for the 175th Anniversary of the Apparition of the Blessed Mother at La Salette, which will be on September 19, 2021, our Congregation proclaims September 19, 2020 - September 19, 2021 as “Marian Year.” It’s a year-long celebration with the theme: MARY, WAY of HOPE and PEACE AMONG CULTURES. This historic event “shall be celebrated in a spirit of synodality with the La Salette Family [the world over] and with the Bishops of the diocese where we work.” We hope that this “Marian Year” will become a “true source of grace for a spiritual, charismatic, pastoral and vocational renewal for every La Salette and the people we serve.” Our local celebration (La Salette California Cluster) will be on September 19, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Montclair, at 6:00 p.m. To join us in this “MARIAN YEAR,” is to take an effort to practice in our lives the “Eight Beatitudes of Reconciliation”: Reconciliation isn’t easy; it takes time and strength of character. Reconciliation isn’t an occasional act; it’s a constant attitude. Reconciliation isn’t denial; it’s saying, “I am sorry, I love you.” Reconciliation isn’t destructive; it’s rebuilding broken relationship. Reconciliation ensures conversion that leads to transfiguration. Reconciliation values the people rather than their faults. Reconciliation is giving people chance to create new beginnings. Reconciliation is allowing us to love forever-more. A reconciling blessings to all! Fr. The Catholic Church officially teaches that Islam is an abomination – a false religion from which people need to be converted and saved. Pope Eugene IV, Council of Basel, 1434: “… there is hope that very many from the abominable sect of Mahomet will be converted to the Catholic faith.” Pope Callixtus III: “I vow to… exalt the true Faith, and to extirpate the diabolical sect [Islam] of the reprobate and faithless Mahomet in the East.” Benedict XVI, General Audience, Sept. 20, 2006: “... I emphasized... my deep respect for the great religions, and especially the Muslims, who ‘worship God…’ ” Notice that he has “deep respect” for not only the false religion of Islam, but other false religions.

  • Novena to Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of Sinners
Novena to Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of Sinners What is a novena? A novena is a prayer tradition that ties back to the time the apostles and Mary spent praying together between Jesus’s ascension into heaven and Pentecost. It is a set of reflections intended to be said over nine successive days. Novenas can be prayed in a group or in private. All that’s needed is a sincere heart as you pray for the intentions of the novena. First day of novena – Welcome Scripture says: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Matthew 11:28, 30) Mary said: “Come near, my children.” Meditation: What a wonderful invitation! In all simplicity Mary at La Salette calls the two children to come near. Her words echo her son’s invitation to come to him that we may find rest from our burdens and refreshment for our spirits. This, too, is Mary’s desire: that her children – meaning us as well – should feel welcomed and loved. Mary wishes us to come nearer to God who desires only good for us. We must approach and listen to her words, spoken with the love and concern of Jesus. She and her son wish that during this La Salette novena, we may “have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10b) This special time of prayer can help us experience the welcoming presence of Mary and her loving son. [quiet reflection] Our prayer: Virgin Mother of La Salette, we approach your loving son with confidence.
