In the cross we see the proof of God's love for each of us and the incredible price God was willing to pay to redeem us from slavery to sin, death, and Gregory John Dinello, Jr. Satan. Jesus gave up his life that September 17, 1974—March 15, 2020 we might have life - abundant, everlasting life with God - a life of James W. Hartline love and unity with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Father of Barbara Doppel) forever. December 13, 1926—April 20, 2020 Through the cross Jesus opened a new way of relationship for us as the adopted sons and daughters Michael Sermo of God - his beloved children. Jesus calls his disciples September 8, 1945—April 26, 2020 to walk in his way of love through obedience to the will Charlene MacDonald of the Father. True love is more than sentiment, emotion, or good intention. As important as these may (Mother of Dave MacDonald) August 13, 1937—April 18, 2020 be they are not the proof of sincere love. True love for God is expressed in obedience and obedience is Bertha Adell Johnides expressed in love. (Mother of Robert Johnides) Jesus promised to give his followers the best of gifts, July 31, 1926—April 9, 2020 the Holy Spirit as their Counselor and Helper. How does the Holy Spirit help us as the counselor? Christopher Firlit Counselor is a legal term for one who defends April 18, 1982—April 3, 2020 someone against an adversary and who guides that George Fowler person during the ordeal of trial. The Holy Spirit is our Advocate and Helper who guides and strengthens us (Father of DeeAnn Uhlarik) April 18, 2020 and brings us safely through the challenges and adversities we must face in this life. Corrine Wiland The Holy Spirit is also the Giver of life - the abundant (Sister of Roni Nantais) life which comes from God and which sustains us September 29, 1936—April 13, 2020 forever. The Holy Spirit also guides us in the way of truth, wisdom, and goodness. We can never stop learning because the Spirit leads us more and more into the knowledge of God's love, truth, and goodness. Jesus also promised his followers the gift of peace. Peace is more than the absence of conflict or trouble. Peace includes everything which makes for our highest good. Trust in God, faith in his promises, and obedience to his word lead us to peace and security in God's presence. That is why a Christian need not fear or be troubled by anything. The love of Christ brings immeasurable joy and consolation even in the midst of our trials and suffering. Paul the Apostle states, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?... For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord". Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the knowledge of Christ's immense love and with his gift of peace. Have a Blessed, safe and strong week. —Deacon Clem The La Salette News, Berkley Page 3 J0*/ 64 0/-*/& for the Masses of the Easter Season Livestreamed on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. www.vimeo.com/lasaletteberkley www.facebook.com/lasaletteberkley www.lasalette-church.org HYMN FOR TODAY 556: Come Down, O Love Divine May 17 to 24, 2020 “I will ask the Father and he will send you another Paraclete, to abide with you forever.” –John 14: 16 Sunday, May 17, 2020 + Andrew Seidl + Marie Seidl This hymn to the Holy Spirit is a prayer—an impassioned plea for + Kevin Carter God to come down from heaven to reside in our hearts and set Tuesday, May 19, 2020 our hearts afire with a holy flame. The Catholic Church officially teaches that Islam is an abomination – a false religion from which people need to be converted and saved. Pope Eugene IV, Council of Basel, 1434: “… there is hope that very many from the abominable sect of Mahomet will be converted to the Catholic faith.” Pope Callixtus III: “I vow to… exalt the true Faith, and to extirpate the diabolical sect [Islam] of the reprobate and faithless Mahomet in the East.” Benedict XVI, General Audience, Sept. 20, 2006: “... I emphasized... my deep respect for the great religions, and especially the Muslims, who ‘worship God…’ ” Notice that he has “deep respect” for not only the false religion of Islam, but other false religions.

  • Novena to Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of Sinners
Novena to Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of Sinners What is a novena? A novena is a prayer tradition that ties back to the time the apostles and Mary spent praying together between Jesus’s ascension into heaven and Pentecost. It is a set of reflections intended to be said over nine successive days. Novenas can be prayed in a group or in private. All that’s needed is a sincere heart as you pray for the intentions of the novena. First day of novena – Welcome Scripture says: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Matthew 11:28, 30) Mary said: “Come near, my children.” Meditation: What a wonderful invitation! In all simplicity Mary at La Salette calls the two children to come near. Her words echo her son’s invitation to come to him that we may find rest from our burdens and refreshment for our spirits. This, too, is Mary’s desire: that her children – meaning us as well – should feel welcomed and loved. Mary wishes us to come nearer to God who desires only good for us. We must approach and listen to her words, spoken with the love and concern of Jesus. She and her son wish that during this La Salette novena, we may “have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10b) This special time of prayer can help us experience the welcoming presence of Mary and her loving son. [quiet reflection] Our prayer: Virgin Mother of La Salette, we approach your loving son with confidence.
