Junior Katee Luecke 2009 outlook Q&A with Head Coach Paul Koncir 1. This year’s freshman class earned the program honorable mention honors from prepvolleyball.com as one of the top recruiting classes in the nation. What makes this group so special and how can they contribute right away? We were certainly honored to be included in that list . This group of 6 are all very energetic, and good players and are a pleasure to have as part of our pro- gram . The freshmen, returning players and staff are all very excited to have them as Tigers . Senior This season should prove to be our biggest “group Missy Rohrbaugh effort”, that being said, some if not all will play key roles in matches . However, their most immediate and impactful contribution will be in practice (the same for the entire team) . Right now, we need to be better daily and let that be our measure . This group should certainly be able to help us do that .

2. With just two seniors on this year’s roster, can they provide you with the leadership this team needs? They certainly can . Both Alysha Fanning and Missy Rohrbaugh have a great deal of experience both in matches and as part of the development of the pro- gram . Their biggest roles in our leadership may be in their composure and maturity . We have quite a bit that is new about us on and off the court, so their stabil- ity and perspective will be invaluable to us . Just the mention of them being seniors reminds me of how important they have been and the impact they have made in their time here . Our story this year is not going to be about one 3. This year’s junior class looks like it could prove to be class or one group . We have a number of new facets an important part of your starting line-up (setter, middle and quite a bit of work to do to reach our goals . The blocker and outside hitter). Your junior year is traditionally in the CAA Championship twice in three years. After falling the one of the biggest gains and biggest challenges in the first round in each of those appearances, what is the and this should be no different . Maryland’s elected offi cials and others who valued a literate citizenry also recognized that public school systems would require qualifi ed, dedicated teachers. They pressed for a systematic, reliable means of producing teachers, and in 1865 – the fi nal year of the Civil War – the legislature allocated funds for Maryland’s fi rst teacher-training school. On January 15, 1866, the State Normal School opened its rented quarters in Baltimore with a principal, M.A. Newell, 11 students and three faculty (“Normal School” is the English translation for Ecole Normale, the term used by the French teacher-training schools that served as models for U.S. educators). Today, Towson University is an institution of higher learning with a president, Dr. Robert Caret, an enrollment of 21,111 and a faculty numbering over 1,400.
