WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Freshman guard Shanae Baker-Brice scored a game-high 17 points, including 11 in the first half, as the Tigers (6-1, 1-0) opened their Colonial Athletic Association schedule with a 66-59 victory over the College of William & Mary (4-3, 0-1) at Kaplan Arena. The victory was just the Tigers’ third in the all- time series as the Tribe hold a commanding 9-3 advantage. Led by 11 points from Baker-Brice, the Tigers used a 56.0 per cent shooting performance from the floor to take a 36-27 half-time lead. Towson used an 18-3 run to rally from a 12-11 deficit and take a 29- 15 lead with 4:41 remaining in the period. After the Tribe rallied to tie the score at 41-41 in the early part of the second half, Baker-Brice hit a three-point basket to regain the Tiger advantage. Moments later, she hit another three-pointer to give Towson a 49-45 lead with 10:35 left in the game. After the Tribe closed to within 62-59 with 13 sec- onds left, the Tigers hit four free throws in the final moments of the game to secure the victory. Baker-Brice led three Tigers in double figures as junior Holly Mahan recorded her second “double double” of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Jamell Beasley came off the bench and added 12 points. Junior forward Kyra Kaylor, the reigning CAA Player of the Year, scored a game-high 22 points and added 12 rebounds for her second “double dou- ble” of the season. Junior Devin James also had a “double double” with 12 points and 10 rebounds. With the win, the Tigers opened their CAA sched- ule with a victory for the third straight year.
