TOWSON, Md. - Facing their former East Coast Conference rivals for the first time in nearly 15 years, the Tigers used a stellar team effort to win their fourth straight game, a 76-42 non-conference victory over Rider University in the Towson Center. Led by 16 points from freshman guard Shanae Baker-Brice, the Tigers shot 43.1 per cent while improving to 3-0 at home this season. With their 9-1 record, the Tigers are off to their best start in the program’s 25-year history, eclipsing the 8-1 mark they opened with during the 2003-2004 season. It is the second time in school history that the Tigers have opened the year with nine wins in their first 10 games. After jumping out to a quick 12-3 lead in the game’s opening four minutes, the Tigers held Rider without a field goal for nearly nine minutes and extended their advantage to 32-10. Sophomore Shaunice Parker ended the drought for the Broncs, hitting a jumper with 6:31 remaining in the stanza. Shooting 45.2 per cent from the floor, the Tigers led by a 45-19 margin at the intermission and limit- ed Rider to 16 field goal attempts in the opening period. Leading by 52-24 early in the second half, the Tigers held Rider without a field goal for the next 11 minutes while increasing the cushion to 65-37 before sophomore Jenn Fabbi hit a three-pointer to briefly stop Towson’s momentum.
