CAA Website: www .CAASports .com 2 2009 Tiger volleyball coaching staff head coach Paul Koncir coaching staff Entering his fourth season on the Tiger sidelines, Paul Koncir looks to help the Tigers take the next step during the 2009 campaign. Paul Koncir head coach – 4th season george Mason, ‘99 career record: 48-44 (.521) The ninth coach in the program’s history, Koncir coached a pair of All-Colonial Athletic Association selections last season in Val Chromy and Maddie Haseltine in addition to CAA All-Rookie selection Susan Gansor . He also helped the team return to the CAA Tournament after a one year absence . Koncir led the Tigers to a 22-9 record three years ago and a berth in the CAA Tournament . He also coached the CAA Rookie of the Year in middle blocker Alysha Fanning while two other players earned All-CAA honors . A 1999 graduate of CAA rival George Mason, Koncir came to Towson after two years as the top assistant for the Patriots women’s volleyball team . During his two seasons, Koncir coached the CAA Setter of the Year, three All-CAA honorees and an AVCA East All- Regional selection . He was involved in all aspects of the program, including training and skill development of the players along with recruiting duties . Prior to George Mason, Koncir spent three years at Georgetown University as an assistant coach . While with the Hoyas, he helped Georgetown return to the BIG EAST Championship Tournament, including a finals appearance in 2001 . He coached four all-confer- ence players as well as a conference Rookie of the Year honoree . In addition to his experience with women’s volleyball, Koncir also has extensive experience with the men’s game . He coached the George Mason men’s team for two seasons, leading the Patriots to the EIVA Championship final in 2004 and the EIVA Championship semi-finals in 2005 . He also served one year as the head coach of the Georgetown club men’s team and led the squad to a conference title and a fifth-place finish at the Division III Club Nationals . He spent one season at his alma mater before heading to Georgetown . Koncir also had a successful playing career while at George Mason . As a member of the Patriot men’s volleyball team, he started every match and ranked second on the team in kills . After graduat- ing, Koncir was a member of the USA Volleyball Chesapeake Region Championship team in 1998 and 1999 . His team also won a pair of championships at the Bahamas International Volleyball Tourna- ment . Koncir’s team earned the championship at the Scottish Open two times and he was named as the tournament’s MVP in 2003 . Towson University Coaching Records Koncir’s experience also extends to the youth level . He coached at both the boy’s and girl’s USA Youth Development Camp in 2005 coach years W-L Pct. and worked at the USA High Performance Tryouts in 2006 .
