PRESSEMITTEILUNG 29.01.2018 Frank Turner Mit Neuem Album „Be FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH Große Elbstr. 277 a ∙ 22767 Hamburg Tel. • Press Release 18Th April 2017 Frank Turner Becomes Patron of Charity
Press release 18th April 2017 Frank Turner becomes patron of charity WAYout following visit to Sierra Leone. Following his recent trip with the Joe Strummer Foundation, Frank Turner is the new patron of charity WAYout. Frank Turner visited WAYout in Sierra Leone in March 2017, where he worked with street youth, gangs and ex-combatants, and visited some of the most deprived parts of the country. Frank's journey is wonderfully captured in his own blog, here: http://frank-turner.com/blog/ and on his Instagram feed #FTJSFWO Examples of the music he made with WAYout members include this popular piece with Meeky Star: https://youtu.be/TYWFzg_Nfyc. He also recorded a track with street rappers The Black Street Family, called “We Lek Wi Salone” and Mash P a track called “After the Jungle” about Mash' experience following being a child soldier. Speaking about the work of WAYout, Frank Turner says: Now that the dust has, for me, settled a little, I can see the enormous value in what they do. One of the comments made to me often by the kids at the project was that they were the only aid group who treated them as individuals, who helped them self-realise. Since starting, more than 2,700 Sierra Leonean kids have passed through the program. It’s not a panacea, these people weren’t “saved” from the situation they were born into, but the project gives real, vital value to their lives. WAYout co-founder, Hazel Chandler, says of Frank joining as a patron: 'Frank did more to raise awareness of the work of WAYout in four days than any other individual ever has.

Amanda Rose Riley DIY Acoustic Girl-with-Guitar Rock Navigation: Bio | Music | Press/Radio | Experience | Contact/Links Bio All Amanda Rose Riley needs is a guitar in hand and her poignant voice to take you on a beautiful, authentic journey through her love for music. Having performed at a wide variety of venues and festivals across the US East Coast and the UK, Riley prides herself on an honest song, an open heart, and above all, creating connection. During the songwriting process, she always thinks about how her songs can touch the lives of others or have a positive impact, for example, by inspiring or comforting listeners. Riley says the highest compliment she receives is when fans tell her they listen to her music during stressful or discouraging times. Ever since deciding to pursue music in 2016, Riley has been the epitome of DIY gusto. Along with releasing albums on her own, she has successfully executed tours overseas and at home in the States, never hesitating to organize a house show, busk in a public place, or hit an open mic to fill in any gaps. Notably, she has established a tradition of performing informally all over the Flogging Molly Cruise for three years in a row, despite never having been officially booked, though it has been a big hit with her fellow shipmates. Her persistence has enabled her to perform alongside the likes of Frank Turner and the Bouncing Souls. Influenced primarily by quirky indie folk music as well as punk rock, Riley’s songwriting style is honest, unfiltered, and has a raw storytelling quality that is rare to see in artists today.

  • Billy Joel's Turn and Return to Classical Music Jie Fang Goh, MM
ABSTRACT Fantasies and Delusions: Billy Joel’s Turn and Return to Classical Music Jie Fang Goh, M.M. Mentor: Jean A. Boyd, Ph.D. In 2001, the release of Fantasies and Delusions officially announced Billy Joel’s remarkable career transition from popular songwriting to classical instrumental music composition. Representing Joel’s eclectic aesthetic that transcends genre, this album features a series of ten solo piano pieces that evoke a variety of musical styles, especially those coming from the Romantic tradition. A collaborative effort with classical pianist Hyung-ki Joo, Joel has mentioned that Fantasies and Delusions is the album closest to his heart and spirit. However, compared to Joel’s popular works, it has barely received any scholarly attention. Given this gap in musicological work on the album, this thesis focuses on the album’s content, creative process, and connection with Billy Joel’s life, career, and artistic identity. Through this thesis, I argue that Fantasies and Delusions is reflective of Joel’s artistic identity as an eclectic composer, a melodist, a Romantic, and a Piano Man. SHARKS TO RELEASE RISE RECORDS DEBUT, NO GODS, MARCH 20, 2012 BAND WILL HIT THE ROAD WITH SOCIAL DISTORTION AND FRANK TURNER STARTING JANUARY 27, 2012 LOS ANGELES, CA – December 13, 2011 – UK-based punk band Sharks today announced their Rise Records debut album, No Gods, will be released on March 20, 2012. Sharks will also hit the road once again in the United States with Social Distortion and Frank Turner starting January 27, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Produced by Brian McTernan (The Explosion, Hot Water Music, Cave In), No Gods swims between the rules and regulations of the iconoclastic chaos of punk rock and British indie music. Over the course of eleven infectious anthems, Sharks sharpen timeless melodies with an explosive edge tempered by intricate riffing and hypnotic harmonies. It's pure. It’s poetic. And it’s powerful. Born in 2007, Sharks is James Mattock (vocals), Andrew J. Bayliss (guitar), Sam Lister (drums), and Tony Corrales (bass). They released their first independent EP, Shallow Waters, in 2008 and drummed up a serious buZZ while playing with the likes of Gallows, The Wedding Present, and Baby Shambles. Barely old enough to drive, the group garnered critical acclaim from tastemakers such as KERRANG!, The Guardian, and NME for 2010's Show of Hands EP and incendiary performances supporting The Gaslight Anthem in the UK. In April 2011, they released The Joys of Living 2008-2010, a 14 songs collection of previously released tracks and two band new ones that garnered them instant acclaim.
