RELEASE NUMBER 10 (October 31, 2011) ESPN, ESPN 3D (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) QUICKLY SPEAKING … The Colorado Buffaloes (1-8, 0-5 Pac-12) hit the national stage and in 3D no less as they play their third straight ranked opponent, hosting the No. 21 (AP) Southern California Trojans (6-2, 3-2 Pac-12) in a 7:00 p.m. mountain time kickoff at Folsom Field … The game will be televised nationally on ESPN, with the network also airing game on ESPN 3D (one of 20 games the network is doing in the format this year; CU’s first-ever game in “the dimension”) … This will be Colorado’s 45th time on ESPN (35 games, 18-15-2) or ESPN2 (9 games, 1-8) … Colorado has lost six straight games in the same year since opening 0-6 in 2006, the latest of which being a 48-14 loss at Arizona State last Saturday … Overall, it’s the longest losing skein since 10 in a row over the 2005-06 seasons … USC is on NCAA probation and can only be ranked by the Associated Press; the Trojans are ineligible for the Pac-12 championship and a postseason bowl. OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK The long-range forecast calls for snow on Wednesday and then Saturday this week, but as of Tuesday a.m., Friday is supposed to be clear but cool, with game time temperatures in the upper 30s … but this is Colorado and things change on a dime as most well know. With the temperature to fluctuate around the freezing mark, if the predicted storm rolls in early, we could also see rain. The last time light rain fell at Folsom Field was in the second half on Oct. 14, 2006 (Texas Tech); the last heavy rains were on Sept. 14, 1996 (fourth quarter, Michigan) and all game long on Sept. 11, 1982 (California).     Trademark Rights for Signature Touchdown Dances Abstract Famous athletes are increasingly cultivating signature dances and celebratory moves, such as touchdown dances, as valuable and commercially viable elements of their personal brands. As these personal branding devices have become immediately recognizable and have begun being commercially exploited, athletes need to legally protect their signature dances. This paper argues that trademark law should protect the signature dances and moves of famous athletes, particularly the signature touchdown dances of NFL players.     Big 12 Conference Schools Raise Nine-Year NFL Draft Totals to 277 Alumni Through 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Apr. 26, 2003 DALLAS—Big 12 Conference teams had 10 of the first 62 selections in the 35th annual NFL “common” draft (67th overall) Saturday and added a total of 13 for the opening day. The first-day tallies in the 2003 NFL draft brought the number Big 12 standouts taken from 1995-03 to 277. Over 90 Big 12 alumni signed free agent contracts after the 2000-02 drafts, and three of the first 13 standouts (six total in the first round) in the 2003 draft were Kansas State CB Terence Newman (fifth draftee), Oklahoma State DE Kevin Williams (ninth) Texas A&M DT Ty Warren (13th). Last year three Big 12 standouts were selected in the top eight choices (four of the initial 21), and the 2000 draft included three alumni from this conference in the first 20. Colorado, Nebraska and Florida State paced all schools nationally in the 1995-97 era with 21 NFL draft choices apiece. Over the last six (1998-03) NFL postings, there were 73 Big 12 Conference selections among the Top 100. There were 217 Big 12 schools’ grid representatives on 2002 NFL opening day rosters from all 12 members after 297 standouts from league members in ’02 entered NFL training camps—both all-time highs for the league. Nebraska (35 alumni) was third among all Division I-A schools in 2002 opening day roster men in the highest professional football configuration while Texas A&M (30) was among the Top Six in total NFL alumni last autumn.
