RELEASE NUMBER 10 (October 31, 2011) ESPN, ESPN 3D (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) QUICKLY SPEAKING … The Colorado Buffaloes (1-8, 0-5 Pac-12) hit the national stage and in 3D no less as they play their third straight ranked opponent, hosting the No. 21 (AP) Southern California Trojans (6-2, 3-2 Pac-12) in a 7:00 p.m. mountain time kickoff at Folsom Field … The game will be televised nationally on ESPN, with the network also airing game on ESPN 3D (one of 20 games the network is doing in the format this year; CU’s first-ever game in “the dimension”) … This will be Colorado’s 45th time on ESPN (35 games, 18-15-2) or ESPN2 (9 games, 1-8) … Colorado has lost six straight games in the same year since opening 0-6 in 2006, the latest of which being a 48-14 loss at Arizona State last Saturday … Overall, it’s the longest losing skein since 10 in a row over the 2005-06 seasons … USC is on NCAA probation and can only be ranked by the Associated Press; the Trojans are ineligible for the Pac-12 championship and a postseason bowl. USC is coming off a gut-wrenching 56-48, three-overtime loss to Stanford at home, easily one of the top games of the year in college football for 2011 … Colorado is 23-10-2 all-time in Folsom Field night games; this will be just the fifth November night game at home in CU history (and the first- ever Friday night one); the Buffs are 2-1-1 at home at night in the turkey month … CU has lost seven straight against ranked teams (last win: 34-30 over Kansas in 2009) … Less than 4,000 tickets remain for the USC game … The CU cross country teams claimed the first two Pac-12 Conference titles last Saturday, as the men and women captured championships in Tempe; the teams will be honored at the CU-USC game this Friday … Visit CUBuffs.com/ gameday as your one stop for everything, including our on-line media guide and live stats. DEPTH CHART ON PAGE 58; ROSTER ON PAGES 59-60 CU-USC TV: ESPN/ESPN3D (National) / Dave LaMont (play-by-play) / Rod Gilmore (color analyst) / (no sideline reporter) / Steve Ackels (producer) STAT OF THE WEEK Colorado is playing its third straight ranked opponent in USC (No. 21 in the Associated Press poll); the Buffs lost to No. 9 Oregon on Oct. 22 and at No. 23 Arizona State last Saturday (counting No. 7 Stanford on Oct. 15, it’ll be the fourth ranked foe in five games). CU last played three straight ranked teams in 2006; this is the 14th time in school history the Buffs will play three straight ranked opponents, including one occasion where they played four (in 1973) and one season where they did it twice (1994). CU has only been swept twice (2000, 2006) with one sweep (the first ’94 run, which included the “Miracle in Michigan”). It’s the ninth time that Colorado will line up against four ranked teams in a five-game span. OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK The long-range forecast calls for snow on Wednesday and then Saturday this week, but as of Tuesday a.m., Friday is supposed to be clear but cool, with game time temperatures in the upper 30s … but this is Colorado and things change on a dime as most well know. With the temperature to fluctuate around the freezing mark, if the predicted storm rolls in early, we could also see rain. The last time light rain fell at Folsom Field was in the second half on Oct. 14, 2006 (Texas Tech); the last heavy rains were on Sept. 14, 1996 (fourth quarter, Michigan) and all game long on Sept. 11, 1982 (California). The last time there was snow throughout the game was on Nov. 11, 2000 (Iowa State; snow has fallen during a game at Folsom just six times since 1949). 2011 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (1-8, 0-5 PAC-12) 2011 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That Sept. 3 NR at Hawai’i NR ESPN2 L 17-34 5-3 1- 2-0 UH jumped to 17-0 halftime lead; CU pulls to within 24-17 but Warriors hang on SEPT. 10 NR CALIFORNIA NR FCS (P) L 33-36 (OT) 4-4 2- 4-0 Buffs rally from 10 down twice, but open OT with a FG and Cal countered with TD Sept. 17 NR Colorado State (Denver) NR FSN W 28-14 3-5 61-20-2 Hansen accounts for 4 TDs (2 rush/2 pass); CSU: 163 yards after opening drive Sept. 24 NR at Ohio State NR ABC/ESPN2 L 17-37 5-3 1- 4-0 Field position dictated game: CU (its 18), OSU (the CU 47) made it a tough go OCT. 1 NR WASHINGTON STATE (FW) NR FCS (P) L 27-31 3-5 4- 3-0 Cougars score two TDs down stretch (2:35, 1:10 left) to spoil CU’s Pac-12 debut Oct. 8 NR at Stanford 7 Versus L 7-48 8-0 3- 4-0 Likely NFL #1 draft pick Andrew Luck (370 yds/3 TDs) too much for Buffs Oct. 15 NR at Washington NR Root/FCS (P) L 24-52 6-2 5- 6-1 UW scores five TDs on first five possessions, CU loses Rippy & Stewart to injury OCT. 22 NR OREGON (HC) 9 FSN L 2-45 7-1 8- 8-0 Ducks race to 29-0 1Q lead; Smith’s T for safety averts first home SO since ’86 Oct. 29 NR at Arizona State 23 Root/FSN L 14-48 6-2 0- 3-0 Turnovers play first real role all year, as CU commits a season-high five NOV. 4 NR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (N) 21 ESPN/3D 7:00p 6-2 0- 5-0 First home Friday night game in CU history (three road/ two bowls, ’71 & ’88) NOV. 12 ARIZONA FCS (P) 12:30p 2-6 12- 1-0 CU defensive assistants Brown (DC), Tuiasosopo (DL) on ’10 UA staff Nov. 19 at UCLA TBA TBA 4-4 2- 4-0 Embree to line up against former mentor (Neuheisel) and own son (Taylor) Nov. 25 at Utah FSN 1:30p 4-4 30-24-3 Old rivals were actually set to resume series in 2012 after 50-year dormancy Dec. 2 Pac-12 Championship Game FOX 6:20p at campus site of the division winner with the best record (All times mountain.
