IDP has enlarged organic areas to other districts in Champasak province other than the first area in Sanamxay, Attapeu province. “This will bring about more paddy available for organic rice production and to the international markets in the future”, said the Purchase department manager of IDP. The company had initiated organic rice production in 2016 with only 426 families interested. With a clear target and available international markets for farmers, it is estimated that 2,500 families will be involved in 2022. Besides rice production, there is a potential for IDP to produce legumes as the second crop. “After rice harvest, farmers do not use the land at all and IDP could plant legumes for developing the land and sell to potential customers”, said Frederic Jullien, the CEO of IDP. Indochina Development Partners Lao (IDP) is a rice milling Company which is located in Southern Laos, with four rice mills operating in Savannakhet and Champasak province. In addition to the rice mills, the Company also has a seed center that produces high quality seeds for its farmers. The goal of IDP is to have a long-term relationship with Lao farmers and produce high quality rice that meets the requirement of international markets.
