Before discovering Kurita’s remains, West Point announced Tuesday it was refocusing its search to the campus’ vicinity because Kurita had no cellphone or financial activity since he had been reported missing. Officials did not announce Kurita’s cause of death or what happened to the M4 rifle. Driver who fatally struck Broadway actress' children now dead of apparent suicide: police. Tony-winning actress Ruthie Ann Miles was hospitalized in critical condition and her 4-year-old daughter died after they were hit by a car. Ruthie Ann Miles lost both her 4-year-old daughter and her unborn child when Dorothy Bruns struck them in a Brooklyn crosswalk. (Photo: Robert Deutsch, USA TODAY) The driver who fatally ran over the children of Broadway actress Ruthie Ann Miles has died of an apparent suicide, the New York Police Department told USA TODAY. Det. Sophia T. Mason said that police reported to a home in Staten Island on Tuesday evening and found Dorothy Bruns, 44, was unresponsive with no obvious signs of trauma. Bruns was pronounced dead, and Mason also confirmed that a note and pills were also found at the scene. "The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death," she told USA TODAY, adding, "The investigation remains ongoing." The medical examiner's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. On March 6, Bruns lost control of her vehicle and slammed into the Tony-winning actress, her friend and their toddlers in a crosswalk in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood, killing the children and injuring the women. Later, Miles, who was pregnant at the time of the accident, also lost her unborn daughter. Two months later, Bruns was charged with manslaughter criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving in the deaths of Abigail Blumenstein, 4, and Joshua Lew, 1. During the accident investigation, Bruns told police she had a history of seizures and had one during the March accident while stopped at a red light, a law enforcement official previously told the Associated Press. The official wasn't authorized to speak about her medical condition and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity. The accident shocked New York and prompted Mayor Bill de Blasio, who lives in Park Slope himself, to propose changes to state laws that would extend and expand speed enforcement cameras around school zones, escalate fines for repeat offenders up to $350, and strip vehicle registration for dangerous drivers, including those with serious medical conditions. "She should never have been allowed to have been driving a car after what we know of these other violations," de Blasio told reporters after learning Bruns' vehicle had multiple citations for speeding in school zones and running red lights. Miles, 35, won a Tony in 2015 for her supporting role as Lady Thiang in the revival of "The King and I." She also had a recurring role in the fourth season of FX's "The Americans," playing Young Hee Seong, a Korean-American woman whose husband was being targeted by Russian spy Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell).
