Her world changes drastically during the sorority's “hell week” as new pledges are asked to perform degrading tasks. Lisa begins to wonder about becoming a sorority sister, but decides to stick it out because she's a “legacy” – that is, her mother is a founding member.

During hell week, Shelby mysteriously falls from the campus clock tower late one night and dies. After getting over the initial shock, Lisa becomes convinced that it wasn't a suicide as everyone wants to believe. She begins her own investigation with Steven's help. But no one on campus will listen to them: Lisa's sorority sisters refuse to talk about that night, and the campus officials have closed the case.

One night, Lisa is abducted from her dorm room, beaten and left alone in the woods while Steven is assaulted on campus and his car vandalized. They both believe the incidents are an attempt to stop their snooping around.

Undeterred, Lisa and Steven continue their quest for answers and unearth the name and address of Anne Marie, a student who quietly left campus last year after hell week. They visit her and discover that she was pledging the same sorority Lisa joined. She fled the school after a night of initiation left her emotionally scarred, and the University gave her a generous financial settlement in exchange for her silence.

Steven and Lisa convince Anne Marie to come forward and tell her story to the campus newspaper. Finally, about Shelby's death is revealed. Despite having voiced her fear of heights, Shelby was forced by her sorority sisters to hang their banner from the bell tower, where she lost her footing and fell to the ground.

The University, at last forced to face up to this string of abuses, closes the sorority and takes steps to insure that such incidents cannot occur again.

Jake () is a writer, a writer with a problem. “My mind,” as he says, “has a mind of its own.” Jake does much more than just put words down on paper. His fictional characters, and the dialogue he creates for them, are so real, they become real.

And when the reality of Jake's won life becomes too much for him, he retreats into the rich world of his imagination. Often, the line between reality and imagination becomes a messy but delightful – blur. And when the subject at hand is women, Jake's hyperactive mind lands him in a lot of trouble sometimes – painful, often funny, always touching.

Jake and his wife Maggie (Anne Archer) have enjoyed eight good years together. But now their marriage is in trouble; Maggie feels she's suffocating, and that her writer husband doesn't really communicate with her. “A good line is always better than an honest emotion, isn't it?” she says to Jake. Maggie suggests a six-month trial separation.

Jake seeks solace – within the fertile realm of his imagination – from his very wise (and wonderfully droll) sister, Karen (Julie Kavner), and his off-the-wall analyst, Edith (Joyce Van Patten). “What you love is the idea of loving women,” says Karen. “But intimacy – that you're afraid of!”

While nursing his hurt, Jake mentally travels back in time to his first marriage, to his beloved Julie (), who died in a car crash at age 35. Jake and Julie had a daughter, Molly (Ashley Peldon/Kimberly Williams), to whom Jake is devoted. Maggie knows only too well that Julie haunts Jake's thoughts; that she, Maggie, is Wife Number Two. “ I'm through with being a rewrite of someone else, “ she says when she and Jake are splitting up.

As the weeks and months of the separation pass, Jake realizes more and more what he's lost. And so does Maggie. “We're like two people reaching out for each other with both hands tied behind our backs.”

As “Jake's Women” flashes back and forth between then and now, between real and imaginary, we experience at his Pulitzer Prize-winning best: uncovering truths, touching our hearts, and making us laugh. Always making us laugh.

The work of one of America's major playwrights comes to the screen in this heart-warming adaptation of Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, The Piano Lesson, the 183rd presentation of the Hallmark Hall of Fame.

At the center of the drama, set in 1936, is an ornately-carved upright piano on which the history of the Charles family is depicted. The piano, which has been in the family for generations, is a prized possession, now gathering dust in the parlor of the quiet home of Berniece Charles ().

When Boy Willie (Charles Dutton), Berniece's exuberant brother, bursts into her life with dreams of buying the same Mississippi land their family had worked as slaves, he announces his plan to sell the antique piano for the hard cash he needs to stake his future. Berniece refuses to sell, believing the family must cling to this symbol of the Charles family heritage.

Thus it is that this wonderful and compelling drama unfolds, pitting a family's legacy against its hope for a brighter future.

His conscience, however, compels him to aid the beleaguered farmer. He takes the case, and wins Ranse's acquittal. On the witness stand, the recovering Oscar reveals that he stole the rifle, which was not loaded, out of the garden, in order to prove his manhood to his father. The Congressman in turn loaded the gun for him, telling him that only a loaded gun qualified him for manhood. Oscar, in returning the gun to the garden, accidently shot himself.

The outcome of the case leads Daniel Stewart to reveal to Olivia the secret behind their own son's death. Horace Henley had lent a gun to a cuckolded townsman, Barney, who, taking aim for his wife, Aurora, accidently shot Danny instead. Stewart did not reveal Henley's involvement in his sons's death to anyone, not wanting to jeopardize the election for a candidate who hat promised to use his office to help poor blacks.

The truth revealed, Daniel and Olivia are finally able to put the past aside.

Blaine Connor (Tim Matheson), a loving husband and father, made a serious mistake when his wife, Cynthia (Leigh Taylor-Young), was ill and he was lonely and vulnerable: he had a brief affair with Sheila (Jennie Garth), a much younger woman. Though he regrets the relationship, the dangerous, far-reaching consequences are just beginning.

Blaine learns that a silkscreen he secretly lent Sheila which belongs to his father-in-law and business associate, Clayton, has skyrocketed in value. Clayton, assuming it is still stored in the company warehouse, mentions his intention of selling it. But when Blaine rushes to Sheila to reclaim the piece, she refuses to give it back.

Blaine is shocked by his next encounter with Sheila, on the arm of his son, Rick (Peter Facinelli), coming through the door for Thanksgiving dinner. Becoming involved with Rick is her way to get back at Blaine, who is just as determined to protect his family as Sheila is to destroy it. Desperate, he hires Dwight Bennet, an ex- con, to search Sheila's apartment, but she catches Dwight in the act and makes a deal: a piece of the action when she sells the art, in exchange for his silence.

Meanwhile, Sheila flaunts her relationship with Rick. In an attempt to have her deported, Blaine reports to authorities that she is Canadian, in the U.S. illegally. But his plan backfires, as Rick announces his intention to marry her, so she can stay. And Dwight learns too late how dangerous a woman she is. When he goes to her apartment for his payoff, he gets it – a razor blade across the throat. She coolly plants a matching weapon bearing Rick's fingerprints, and leaves to collect the silkscreen and get out of the country.

The search for Rick leads the police to Blaine's door. Blaine confesses everything to Cynthia and tries to tell Rick about Sheila's treachery. But he refuses to believe any of it and storms off to go to her. Sheila admits that her initial plan was revenge, but says she now truly loves him. Rick almost believes her, until he discovers where she's hidden the missing art.

Blaine arrives just as Sheila pulls a gun. He jumps between them and takes a bullet intended for Rick. Sheila runs out with the silkscreen to board a plane, confident of her victory. Suddenly, she finds Rick has tricked her: she doesn't have the silkscreen at all. The police take Sheila away, and face the difficult task of becoming a family again.

One half the planet Rustia receives perpetual daylight, and the other half is always cloaked in night. The peaceful “Lightsiders” live like simple frontiersmen of the old American West, while the violent “Darksiders” live in a sort of dismal Gothic splendour.

Dr. Driscoll Rampart (Neal McDonough), young, handsome and over-confident, is sure that his assignment on Rustia, “the armpit of the Universe,” is a mistake that his well-connected father back on Earth will quickly be able to fix. But the primitive and mysterious planet begins to affect him, and through the influence of his supervisor, Dr. Akada (Paul Winfield), a frontier doctor of mythic reputation, Rampart learns to temper his egotism and have compassion for even the poorest of his patients.

In his travels to the Darkside, Rampart falls in love with Princess Ariel, who is promised in an arranged marriage to Strake, a Machiavellian advisor to her father, the King. Secretly conspiring to disrupt an on-going peace process with the Lightsders, Strake's intrigues eventually lead to his undoing. Rampart, at last offered his opportunity to leave the planet, decides instead to stay and continue to explore the mystery of Rustia and his now-promising romance with Ariel.
