2021 Alternative Trips in Brief

If things go badly in regard to the W.A. border or the remote Aboriginal Communities during our touring season while S.A. remains available to us the following trips are what we can offer as an alternative. We have run these trips before so many of you will recognise these routes. We have renamed the trips for 2021 but included the original trip names to make things clearer for all. See what you think, we imagine most folks just want to get away for a while given the last 12 months. Small maps are included to indicate tour area.

#1 - The Forgotten Frontier (Series in the Scrub 2015) Our time will be spent exploring sites and features of the eastern & southern Nullarbor. If you immediately think of the then you are much mistaken…… There will be only a few kms spent on bitumen.

#4 – “Wuhan Wanderer” This is a longer trip and similar to the trip we had planned for May of this year. The reason for the switch in time is simply if the virus is still causing problems early in the year the later we leave this alternative the better. As you will notice on the map we do not enter any W.A. towns so if the virus has another run while we are in the bush it hopefully won’t affect us. Ilkurlka Roadhouse will be our only point of civilisation so the entire trip will depend on the Roadhouse being open, but given we’ll be isolating while doing the trip it may work out OK if things are pear shaped elsewhere. Currently the most popular of Len’s roads, the Anne Beadell Highway is a 1350 km link between Coober Pedy & Laverton in the west. This road was made over quite a few years and there is plenty of Len Beadell history from his diaries written as the road was cut with dozer & grader. We’ll also detour via Hann’s Track to add a little bit more adventure. This extra leg is a good set of wheel-tracks that follow the route taken by explorer Frank Hann for several years from 1903. We will join the Anne Beadell Highway after completing Frank’s route. Then we’ll head back east to refuel at Ilkurlka Roadhouse. With fresh fuel we’ll follow the south and then detour through the Myall woodlands and the Nullarbor Plain to finish the trip at Coorabie Farm-stay in South . This is a very good trip for those interested in unique environments and sites of special interest.

 Depart Coober Pedy S.A. – Wednesday August 18th  Arrive Coorabie Farm-stay S.A. – Friday September 10th  24 days – including one day off from travel  $3840 per tag-a-long vehicle ($160/day)  2900 kms approx’ @ 126 kms per day  Longest distance between fuel = 1100 kms  Diesel, Unleaded & Camper Trailers welcome  No previous desert experience required  Contact Connie & Mick for further information
