At the far end, an “Ireland” that is as real as it is “invented” year after year radiates itself hither, materially and ideally, to be painstakingly reconstructed, perused, and discussed. Over twenty years hundreds of students and dozens of professors have contributed to this unlikely entanglement that synchronises – relatively – the ends of our continent, the terms of our cultures across space and through a finely calibrated historical lens. Carmen Borbely’s Introduction does a brilliant job of retelling the history of this unlikely venture, which many may have deemed quixotic. Kindled by the abiding passion of one person – professor John Fairlegh – for the cultures of Romania and Ireland, helped along by the efforts of professors in Ireland and Cluj, the M. A. in Irish studies continues to this day to bring together young postgraduates around the table in the small room, and to open to them the cultural horizon of Ireland. This volume is an homage to the scholarship that has been fostered in the area of Irish studies at Babeș-Bolyai University, and a snapshot of the work being undertaken by professors, alumni, and students. However partial, it manages to convey the varied research interests and perspectives, orbiting around several centres of gravity that bend discourses this way and that, with the huge Irish- European supernovae of Joyce and Beckett figuring prominently, of course. Still, from Irish myths to contemporary authors, the range of the collection captures something of the amplitude of preoccupations that have

The Irish Universities Act 1908 was a historic piece of legislation, formally closing a turbulent chapter in Irish third level education and opening a new and innovational chapter: establishing two separate universities, one in Belfast, replacing the old Queen’s College of the Royal University, the other with its seat in Dublin, a federal university comprising the Royal University colleges of Dublin, Cork and Galway, re-structured as Constituent Colleges of the new National University of Ireland.

As I demonstrate, the methodologies available to early modern historians, many of which were developed by medieval chroniclers, were extraordinary flexible, able to meet a large number of scholarly and political needs. I argue that many early modern historians worked with medieval texts and genres not because they had yet to learn more sophisticated models for representing the past, but rather because one of the most effective ways that these writers dealt with the political and religious exigencies of their times was by adapting the practices, genres, and materials of medieval history. I demonstrate that the early modern national history was capable of supporting multiple genres and reading modes; in fact, many of these histories reflect their authors’ conviction that authentic past narratives required genres with varying levels of facticity.

Read this short article about President Mary McAleese and see how much of your information is correct. Mary McAleese – A Short Biography Mary McAleese was born in Belfast on 27 June 1951. Her maiden name was Leneghan. Her father was a shopkeeper. Mary grew up in the Ardoygne and went to school in St. Dominic’s High School. Her family was Catholic but the area where they lived was Protestant. When the Troubles started in 1969 life became difficult for them. Her father’s shop was attacked by gunmen and her brother was badly beaten up. Eventually the family was forced to leave their home and move to another part of Northern Ireland. When she left school she went to Queen’s University in Belfast, where she studied law. She graduated in 1973. Three years later she married Martin McAleese, who is a dentist. They first met when they were still in secondary school. They have three children – Emma, and twins Saramai and Justin. After she qualified as a lawyer Mary moved to Dublin. First she worked as a lecturer in Trinity College and then as a journalist for RTE. In 1997 she was elected President of Ireland. She has been president for eight years. In altre parole, sembra necessario precisare quale contributo si presuma di offrire alla comprensione del percorso poetico di Heaney, anche in rapporto alle monografie e ai saggi esistenti. È il poeta stesso a indicare la chiave di lettura che meglio consente di cogliere il senso profondo della sua ricerca estetica ed etica. Nel componimento “Out of the Bag” il narratore richiama l'attenzione su “the cure / By poetry that cannot be coerced”1. Riassumendo in questo verso le qualità fondamentali dell'arte poetica, Heaney mette in luce i tratti distintivi della sua produzione, sempre alla ricerca, fin dalle prime prestazioni, di una mediazione fra le pressioni socio-politiche del mondo esterno e la volontà di mantenere intatto il potere terapeutico del medium poetico. Breaking with tradition, a depleted Fianna Fáil party did not propose an alternative candidate and abstained from the vote. Kenny's election brought to an end Fianna Fáil's fourteen consecutive years in Cabinet on the back of three successful elections in 1997, 2002 and 2007.
