Playing together over the past few weeks has been a real celebra!on for us and e’re excited to be able to share it ith you tonight. Fanfare and Flourishes (For a Festive Occasion) By James Curnow James Curnow is an American composer ho has taught instrumental music and received numerous a ards for teaching and composi!on. Curno has been commissioned to rite over 400 orks for concert band, brass band, orchestra, and choir, and his total published orks no number ell over 800. We Gather Together (Hymn of Thanksgiving) By Eduard Kremser/Arranged by Sco Stanton "We (ather Together" is a Chris!an hymn of Dutch origin ri+en in 15.7 by Adrianus 0alerius to celebrate the Dutch victory over 1panish forces in the Ba+le of Turnhout. It as originally set to a Dutch folk tune. The tune 2rst appeared in an American hymnal in 1.03. In anglophone hymnology, the tune is kno n as "4remser," from Eduard Kremser 5s 1877 arrangement and lyric transla!on of the piece. Libertango By Astor Piazzola/Arranged by Gareth cLearnon Astor Piazzolla as an Argen!ne composer, bandoneon player, and arranger. 6e revolu!oni7ed tradi!onal tango music into a ne style termed nuevo tango. A Strange Combination By Tom Evans, CB member Tom Evans, MCB’s trumpet sec!on leader said about the piece he rote in 2020: ;It5s the song that gave our duo its name.” His Honor By Henry Fillmore/Arranged Larry Clark Henry Fillmore as an American musician, composer, publisher, and bandleader, best kno n for his many marches and screamers. A=er gradua!ng from the Cincinna! Conservatory of Music, Fillmore traveled the United 1tates as a circus bandmaster ith his ife, an exo!c vaudeville dancer. Down by the Salley Gardens - An Irish Folk Medley Arranged by ichael Sweeney Michael Sweeney is an A1CAP a ard- inning American composer and musician. 1 eeney studied music educa!on and composi!on in college and taught concert, Aa77, and marching programs. 1 eeney has over 500 publica!ons to his credit. 6is orks appear on numerous state contest lists and is regularly performed around the orld. Irish Suite Arranged by Elliot A. Del Borgo Elliot Del Borgo appeared freBuently as a guest conductor of bands and orchestras around the orld. With over C00 published composi!ons, he as o=en commissioned by groups of all performance levels in the areas of band, orchestra and choir. 6e adAudicated many bands and orchestras each year in a ide variety of venues. Valdres By Johannes Hanssen/Arr. James Curnow Johannes Hanssen as a Nor egian bandmaster, composer, and teacher. 6is most famous composi!on is his march cele- bra!ng the beau!ful 0aldres region in Nor ay that lies bet een Eslo and Bergen. The main theme is the signature fanfare for the 0aldres Ba+alion, hich is based on an ancient melody formerly played on the medieval lur. Le Voir By BJ Brooks BJ Brooks rote the follo ing about this piece hich as commissioned for soloist 1ean Reed’s nephe : ;I 2rst began of thinking of the simplicity of childhood and the spiritual importance of a christening. By taking the name of 1ean’s nephe , Eliver, and looking at possible anagrams, a possible !tle GLe 0oir’ came to mind. The transla!on from French of GLe 0oir’ is roughly G1ee him.’ As this piece as envisioned to be for Eliver at his christening at a Bap!st church, the !tle G1ee 6im’ seemed ell suited because of it’s possible interpreta!ons.” Kentucky 1800 By Clare Grundman/ Arranged by Robert Long+eld Clare Grundman composed scores for 2lms, radio, and televi- sion, as ell as orchestra!ons for Broad ay musicals. 6e is best kno n for his many composi!ons and arrangements for symphonic band.
