2 WWW.GOXAVIER.COM On Campus at Xavier... • The state-of-the-art Cintas Center, which opened in 2000, includes a 10,250-seat arena for men’s and women’s and volleyball. In addition to athletics, the arena is home to Xavier commencement ceremonies and other major campus events.

• Opened in the spring of 2002, the Gallagher Student Center is a state-of-the-art student center that includes a computer lab, offi ce and resource space for Xavier’s 80- plus student clubs and groups, a performing arts center, recreation areas and a variety of food outlets.

• The galvanizing component of Xavier’s strategic plan is the Academic Quadrangle (left). The proposed project is a four-part, student-focused endeavor that reshapes campus, provides new academic and career resources, strengthens enrollment and expands community engagement.

• Xavier was honored by the National Collegiate Landscaping Society for overall campus beauty.

Athletics Mission Statement Consistent with the Jesuit philosophy of education and the mission of the University, the Xavier University intercollegiate athletics program strives to enhance and integrate the intellectual, moral, spiritual, emotion- al, social and physical growth of young men and women. Championship Athletics... • Since 1998, Xavier athletics teams have won 12 Atlantic 10 Champi- onships and competed in 23 NCAA Tournament events.

• In 2004, the men’s basketball team reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, after winning four games in four days (includ- ing an upset of nationally-ranked No. 1 Saint Joseph’s) in the A-10 Championship. XU has won three of the last fi ve A-10 men’s hoops titles -- taking the 2006 championship in Cincinnati (left).

• The women’s basketball team captured both the A-10 Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2001.

Xavier Soccer Complex The Xavier University men’s and women’s soccer programs are preparing for their third full seasons in the renovated Xavier University Soccer Complex, which boasts the recent installation of FieldTurf. The installation of the new turf brought a long list of benefi ts, not the least of which is bringing the Musketeers back to campus for all practices. It not only gives them an on-campus place to practice but also a fi rst-class venue for their games and a safer venue for both. As part of the reconstruction process, XU was able to lengthen and widen the fi eld to 70x115 yards.

Cintas Center The state-of-the-art Cintas Center on the campus of Xavier University, which opened for the 2000-01 academic year, includes a 10,250-seat arena, home to the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as the volleyball team. One of the fi nest on-campus arenas in the entire nation, the facility features a full-size practice gymnasium, an athletic training room and a strength & conditioning room utilized by the XU men’s team. Not just a sports arena, the facility is the setting for commencement as well as outside exhibits, concerts, trade shows, weddings and family entertainment events. The Cintas Center doors are less than 200 yards from Xavier’s residence halls.

Schmidt Fieldhouse Located on the west end of the Xavier campus, the Schmidt Fieldhouse houses the men’s soccer offi ces as well as the soccer team room and locker room. The Fieldhouse also includes an auxiliary training room, weight room and indoor practice space. The O’Connor Sports Center houses the pool that serves as the home to the Xavier swimming team. Both the Schmidt Fieldhouse and the O’Connor Sports Center are positioned between the Xavier Soccer Complex and Hayden Field, the home of XU .

He collected many accolades while at XU. He was team MVP in 1991 All- Ohio in 1991 and 1994, and Academic All-Mideast all four years. Schu- reck was also a member of the Cincinnati Classics Region II Men’s Open Champions in 1995.

He has translated his playing success to coaching and under his guidance, Coach Schureck’s players have been getting noticed: Two NSCAA All-Amer- icans, Nine All-Region, 13 All-Ohio, 17 All A-10 Conference, including the 2000 A-10 Player of the Year and the 2003 Ohio Player of the Year.

In 2000, Coach Schureck was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the year while winning the A-10 regular season crown.

Schureck and his wife Jen reside in Cincinnati and have two sons, Beau

Graham, S.J. • President Graham, the 34th Jesuit president of Xavier University, became president on Jan. 1, 2001. He came to Xavier as an assistant professor of history during the 1984-1985 academic year. Fr. Graham left Xavier to pursue his Masters of Divinity from The Weston School of Theology, which he earned in 1988. He returned to Xavier the following year and has never left. In 1994, Fr. Graham was appointed vice president for university relations. Five years later, Fr. Graham was named executive assistant to then Xavier President Fr. James E. Hoff, S.J. Fr. Michael Graham, 52, was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He earned a BSS with majors in philosophy and psychology in 1975 from Cornell College. He earned an MA in American Studies in 1977 and an MA in 1978 in psychology from the Univer- sity of Michigan. In 1983, he earned his Ph.D., also at the University of Michigan, in American Studies. Fr. Graham’s strategic plan for the University places a renewed emphasis on the learning experience of the student. Part of his plan calls for the creation of the James E. Hoff, S.J. Academic Quadrangle, a multi-part project that will provide an enhanced educational experience and better career preparation for all students.

Mike Bobinski • Associate Vice President & Director of Athletics Mike Bobinski returned to the Xavier University Athletic Department as Director for Athletics this summer. This is a return engagement for Bobinski, who came to Xavier in 1998 as Athletic Director and served in that position until his move to the development offi ce in June 2004. During Bobinski’s previous tenure, Xavier’s athletic teams won nine Atlantic 10 Champion- ships and competed in 19 NCAA tournament events. Bobinski has called himself a non-traditional athletic director who came to intercollegiate athletics more than 20 years ago from the business world, not the playing fi eld or coaching arena. Before coming to Xavier he was the athletic director at the University of Akron, and prior to that, he was the associate director of athletics at the U.S. Naval Academy. Bobinski was as- sociate and assistant business manager Notre Dame from 1984 to 1989. A native of Yaphank on Long Island, N.Y., Bobinski, 48, received his bachelor of business administration from Notre Dame in 1979, graduating magna cum laude. As a licensed certifi ed public accountant, he fi rst went into accounting with Arthur Young & Company and Deloitte, Haskins and Sells and he also worked for the Walt Disney Company in Orlando before moving into college athletics. Bobinski and his wife, Sil, have two children, Melissa, 19, who just completed her freshman year at Xavier, and Brian, 17.

Brian Hicks • Director of Marketing/Men’s Soccer Admistrator Brian Hicks begins his second year as men’s soccer administrator and the athletic department’s Director of Marketing. Hicks, 32, is responsible for the development and implementation of the men’s and women’s basketball season ticket campaign. He is also responsible for designing, selling and servicing corporate partnerships and oversees gameday operations for men’s basketball. Hicks is also responsible for coordinating the department’s special events including Musketeer Madness, the annual men’s basketball banquet and the school’s Hall of Fame inductions. A 1997 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Hicks earned a master’s degree in sport administration from Xavier in 1999. Hicks and his wife, Rachel, reside in Madeira with their son Benjamin (1).
